This sketchbook is made for the 5 members of our team: CyGear, Diarum, Kamber Parrk, PermaNoob and myself.

We intend to do a group sketch and post them here, either once or twice a month, or more. Sketches and drawings will be based on a commonly-agreed theme.

Details have yet to be finalized, but will unfold in time to come.

We thrive on the concept of being loose and fun. Life is serious and harsh as it is, we don't need more of it! In this team, everything is open and transparent. If anyone is not happy with anything, we post them here in the open for discussion and votes. That's what real men do!

Yes! it's up. just a quick comment before i go to bed. i like the name Penvirate. i vote we keep it. if we do, Xeon you should PM us with the bb code to add it to our signatures. im sure we could put it together for ourselves but i am just too lazy LOL. So Xeon, how were you thinking about doing this? did you want to post a theme with timeframe and do individual sketches? did you want to do collab sketches? both? i am game for anything.

woot this is gonna be AWESOME, man I am so pumped right now I can barely type right now. The "sons of the renaissance" sounds super cool, but really Cheesy at the same time. lol I don't know what to say other then awesome, only think I can really say. My head is rushing. the once or twice a month is good for me because my scan periods are very random. First theme should be what we would look like together as action figure or comic book heroes or something I don't know its an Idea

I'd say we should rotate the decision as to what to draw-- just go in order of the Penvirate roster. If anyone has a problem with the "assignment"-- post a protest-- others can then give feedback/input-- otherwise, the "assignment" governs.

The "assignments" should be reasonable to keep the aggravation/procrastination level low! (No 50 man battle scenes from "Brave Heart.") Just simple, useful things that are good learning drills that can be handled in 15 to 20 minutes. [Though, if you want to spend a half-day doing a super good job just to embarass the rest of us-- well, good for you.]

We can mix up the assignments: general assignments like "draw a dog" or "draw your favorite cup." And, specific assignments like "draw the skull" on page X of Bridgman's _________. I suppose the decider could even post a specific ref picture in the thread for us all to work from.

Well, those are my ideas. Anyone else?

Ok, guys, some updates!

Kamber has a good suggestion. We'll suggest themes to draw, based on the rooster.

1) If no one has any problems, the rooster will be as follows:

i) Xeon
ii) Kamber
iii) Diarum
iv) PermaNoob
v) CyGear (the last I heard, it's spring now and he's outdoors playing LOL! )

So, for the 1st drawing, it will be as follows:

#1 SELF PORTRAIT
- Draw a self-portrait of yourself. It can be a profile, straight-on face or a 3/4 view.

- U can use any media, including human waste if you're able to handle that (but no abstract art :p)

- You can be imaginative and add cigars, scars or crap onto your face if you want.

- This is not a drawing competition, so nobody will laugh at anyone! Doesn't matter if you never did any self portrait before; my own self-portrait sucks big-time. It's good to have fun once in a while.

- The main reason why this first drawing is a self-portrait is so i) a novel way to introduce ourselves and ii) I'll be putting all our self portraits into our banner

The empty space in the poster is for putting all our self-portraits there side by side.

This idea of a sketchbook group is awesome. I was so surprised while reading your posts and all this suggestions.
Sorry that I was not online but I had really much to do.
So, I would like to apologize and ask you what the fuck is going on....XD....

Firstly, I want to say that if you do not understand me because of my terrible english ask for another different formulation . Then, I read our theme and .....What?.......self-portrait?....sounds awesome.....
Especially the sense behind it.
This is gonna to be crazy as Diarum said...I am so excited and inspired....wohuuuuuu

I was think about this whole SB thing and to make it more productive and to get the most out of it, I thought that instead of say like "that looks awesome..ect" we keep positive comments to a minimum and have like a two to one ratio of positive to Constructive criticism. So for everyone positive you have to give 2 Constructive criticism.

I say this because we can keep to our own Sb and get positive things but this is more then just saying "hey good job" its about being honest with each other. And you get A LOT more out of CC then just saying Good job.

Self portrait sounds good, nothing really to say for it lol, so are we gonna have like died lines so we can keep everyone in the same range of updating?

Should the picture have the same colour like our poster or could it be every colour....I ask that because I would like to draw on normal paper....nothing special.
And should I write something beside my head or what is going after we have drawn the self-portraits?

Yes it should be all in the same color, a dark color would be better since its easy to see. It should be the head and neck

Nah, portrait can be anything. This is about your own style and who you are. You can draw on gold plates using a white marker, or on newprint, or on A4 paper using pencil, anything. Once the portraits are posted, I'll resize them and post in the team poster.

nice we've got our first assignment! good idea Xeon this should be both challenging and informative. i can't think of a better way to get to know each other! this will be my first self portrait so im a bit nervous. i like the idea about comments and crits. i feel like this can be a place where we can be honest and helpful with each other and not feel bad about it on either end. with that said, here we go...

Well, I have already finished my Self-Portrait today altough I intended to do it next week, whatever.
So, I think it is ok and if I try to change anything I will destroy it, surely.
And do not think I would look exactly like this....especially the colour of my skin.....XD

Seriously, though, it's even better than I thought! Just color the skin in pinkish-white and you'll look like a Caucasian.

well guys, here it is. mah self portrait. it is far from great but im kinda tired of messing with it so i guess this is as good as it's gonna get this time. Xeon this was a really great project. i feel like i pushed myself in many different ways on this one. this is my first ever self portrait and also my first finished painting. i learned a lot about using life reference (i used a mirror) and also about painting. this project helped me to identify areas where i can begin to start working towards improvement. all in all, great exercise, great fun.

Year, color, configuration-- all your choice.

Due date? We'll shoot for the end of the month-- 2 projects a month seems doable. Then, Diarum, tag, you're "it" to decide the next one after 2 weeks. . .

lol alright so my plan failed really badly, a lot unforeseen things that happened like my scanner not work( well its not mine) but still my fag step dad had to move it to his computer which he didn't install the coper (its a 3 in 1) any who. Then my school self portrait wasn't on my flash drive. so I had to Email it to myself. So yeah here is my self portrait. though I have really short hair now. sorry this will not happen in the future lol.

You truly take the cake, Diarum! I never thought you would post such a style! LOL, in fact, when I looked at it, I thought it was some egyptian art, then I re-size it smaller and only then could I see the whole face.

So, you don't have to draw more than ONE Crown Vic-- though, if you want to draw a platoon of cops chasing a taxi that's about to crash into a Crown Vic full of old ladies on their way to church-- knock yer self out!)

Nah, for my case, drawing 2 crown vics is a self-imposed punishment for posting in the portrait project late.
Over here, we promote a culture of "self-imposed punishment".

The thing fell out of my mouth during the posing and I had to re-pose it. It was really a torture, because the saliva keep drooling down.
