Cojac - thanks very much, I hope it was helpful. I'm still working through those myself.

vlad74 - thanks, I checked out your own sb too, you're making some good steps!

As I'll be starting Still Life with Brent Watkinson next term, I've been tring to hone my skills. I say hone... I've been trying to develop them! Either way, I'm making progress, and feel I'm really starting to get there. As everyone says, its all about drawing. If you draw it properly, the painting paints itself.

Happy New Year Tom, hope you had a good Christmas break. It's great to see the progress you are making. Brents class sounds good. I did watch a video he did on colour which was good over on the Visual Literacy Program site. Do you know if you will be painting tradionally or doing both? All sounds so good to me, I hope it is living up to your expectations to.

Holy shit man! had a look at your two latest pages.. mind.. blown! I really love the perspective picture's you've uploaded. Especially the room with all sorts of cool stuff (come on! a friggin dinosaur! ). Also the landscapes a bit further down on page 59.

Reminds me of Bumskee's work and Kim Jung Gi.

I think that orb is really fascinating.. what's the purpose for doing so? and where can I find information about that kind of volume-drawing? Perspective is something I've just started learning again so I welcome all kinds of resources! keep up the awesome work definitely gonna look through all of it when I can

razz - yeah I love working with line. Even these days when I am doing a lot of painting, I stilll just love how abstract line is to use.

DefiledVisions - hahaha thanks amigo! Good to see you stopping by, you're a long-time CA'er by now! Wow.. to say "reminds me of Bumskee and Kim Jung Gi" is like.. well haha thats unreal to hear, because they are two of my biggest influences regarding sketching. Both are absolutely incredible! Im nothing yet compared to them, but who knows.. one day!

Marian - you know I will! thanks

AeonPhoenix - yeah once you get out of the habit, or get really busy it can be hard to remember to do! Thanks for coming by though.

    Elias Leonard - cheers!

Appreciate the support guys, as always!

NickeyBeats - yeah I really am this January. Now the fear of having to get a part time job is making me work really hard. Im aiming to get this thread REAAAAAAAALLLLY still life based for the next few weeks. I want to completely nail it, and get some "academic" style paintings done by the end of february. We will see!!

Hey Thom! Great work lately of course.

Actually have a bit of a crit here; if the latest still life is completed, the crit would be that there are too many lost edges. Because of the law of simultaneous contrast in value, the edge of the pot should have some kind of light halo around it to offset it a little bit from the background... at least around the side that is away from the light (the right edges).

Simultaneous contrast in value is this sort of thing, of course:

It's sort of the illusion that dark edges get lighter near a lighter edge and vice versa.

Just wanted to say your improvement since this sketchbook thread started is amazing!
Truly an inspiring thread you have here. I'm very, very impressed.

Are you taking any classes? I saw you have some notes from Kekai Kotaki, and was wondering if it's from some online/offline course that he's giving?
As you are reading this, I am trying to become more awesome:

Shinkan - Yeah I've recently started TAD which is really reallly hard work, but going great and I'm learning loads. Those notes from Kekai are just general observations that I always make when I see other people's work. Glad to have inspired you a little!

Perspective studies freehand, go! This is also really industrial design training.. concept work.. its all art, who cares!

Hello! Great sketchbook and great work! Love your new website as well. I just wish the images had a rollover image as well. How about either 1) making the rectangles bigger upon mouse rollover or 2) making them lighter (Putting a very transparent light layer on top) or 3) both?

HederaHiberna - cheers, yeah I hope there is something to learn from! And my art probably seems to be developing because I don't update enough! But I'll try to remedy that. With TAD I feel I spend my whole life uploading work to a computer, so I'm not as keen as I used to be!
