Hey Tom I'm guessing that you must be feeling really exhausted with all you have going on. Hang on in tHere though as it is paying off. You are looking more and more like the concept artist you want to be with every post.
I can't quite get my head around how to approach the gridded spheres but you have done a great job, I also really like the figure study, you have some really nice marks and tones and feeling in that one. I do see that the on the second master study the breast looks a little small and not full enough and the hand too large and slightly wrong angle. Could just be how you had photographed it though.

Any chance you can make it to the Official Conceptart.org workshop next year in London? Would be cool if you can as I think it's going to be a great opportunity to get to meet professionals from the industry and get some more feedback on your work and job opportunities.

damn, you have some good work. my favourite of yous is looking at your notes and when you cut loose and play with unorthodox ideas and silly proportions. i appreciate people who dont filter their work and are open to radical, new ideas. keep going buddy

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys! Yeah I've been working really hard and havent even updated my CA sb (thats a sign I really have no time!)

Marian - yeah I hadn't even heard about it! But yeah I would really like to go, after all CA is responsible for changing my life on some level

Nickybeats - Haha, thanks man, there is a lot further to go yet!

denzalan - cheers amigo, thanks for stopping by

axelga2112 - thanks, yeah obvservational drawing is definitely one of my strongest points, it makes up for some serious deficits in other areas!

p sage - haha cheers man, I'm trying at least!

Velocity - yeah it really does feel like hard work! But I can't really complain, on my days off I get to paint and sketch my personal work.

udonhead - thanks, theyre improving very gradually by the day! Some great teaching going on at TAD, and lost of slave-driving

But I think I might be able to get back into it now. I'm working all the time these days, and have really landed on my feet here in Bristol. I'm having to do a café job, which is horribly tiring, but at least I have some time to do art, so I can't complain!

Here are some perspective exercises that I did this evening to relax, after using oils today. (I'll post that too tomorrow).

Anyway, I'm going to keep updating this sketchbook because I made a challenge to myself that I'd get it to 100 pages before I even thought about giving up, and I'm a long way from that yet!

Bristol, eh? Nice city. I have a colleague there. I remember walking through a sizeable park there last summer (2011). There was some kind of statue at the center. It was pretty close to a house they called the first American embassy in the world. Do you know the park I'm talking about? It was close to the riverfront, or canal front... or whatever you call it.

Banksy's graffitoes are everywhere I spent half of one day photographing as many as we could find.

Seems like a great city for the arteests like you.

    Cool industrial designs & sh*te!

    Take care.

Hey Tom these perspective studies look really good. I really like this last one. Are they from life or imagination, either way they look cool. It looks like TAD was a good use of your money even though it's really tough with the cafe job and all it will be so worth it in a few years time. I'm surprised that you didn't hear about the Imagination workshop, I would have thought they would have been talking about it in your classes and promoting it? I do hope you can make it. Sorry no crits , your skills are getting too advanced for me.

Marian - yeah never even heard of it! I looked into it and its really pricey! I definitely wont be attending if its going to be $500! I could get hold of so much good art content for that price that I guess I can't really justify it. Saying that, I wouldnt be surprised if the price was lowered shortly before the event, in which case I might consider it haha. I hope you're getting on well, I'll check out your SB this weekend

I have to agree with Greenhouse, these figures are beautiful. Something about the conté rendering gives a great bronze cast quality to them. Great work overall, good to see the TAD work is really paying off!

Thanks all! Really appreciate the comments and continued support. Finally broken the 60 page mark, onwards to 100!

This is something from tonight, I think its quite sweet, perhaps I'll make some copies into cards or something similar. Either way, its all gravy amigos!

One tip for anyone who has a spare $80: Go to the gnomon workshop site, click on "Scott Robertson" and then buy his dvds on "rendering matte form". I watched the first one today and it was incredible. If you go through it, make notes and work as he works then it will take you 3-4 hours minimum, which is great value for money considering they are only $40 each.

Good luck, and hope that helps!
