    Simo Kovanen's sketchbook

Hello! My name is Simo, I'm an Industrial Design student in Finland. While I'm not busy doing university stuff, I like drawing disproportionate humans and being generally terrified of using traditional media. I hope you like my attempts to make you like me.

11-1-2012 UPDATE: Came out of the closet with my real name. Is there any way to change my nickname?

Thanks! The troll sketches are for this ( http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=184449 ) fan art piece I was working on, dunno if I'll ever finish it though. The man in the last scan is our art teacher. :p

    Cow

Half a year since my last update, here's another batch. Got into a school to study Industrial Design, but I still find myself mostly drawing people and poses :p

Congrats for getting into that school. Must feel great. You've got lots of nice sketches and studies here. Just watch those proportions. Don't know if you've already tried it, but doing lot's of quick gestures from for example posemaniacs.com is a great way to get better with figures. I only recently started doing those on a daily basis, but I'm already starting to feel the effects.

    From Iceland

This is a few hour painting I did in Photoshop with my Wacom back when the air was warmer. Out of a photo reference from Iceland.

    Posemaniacs

Here's 3 out of 6 pages of 30 second Posemaniacs I did yesterday. For some reason the other 3 just wont upload. Uploading fails each time. Maybe I'll take new photos of those...

Another batch from of my most recent sketches. I'm gonna try and update this place more often, been upping things in my blog but since comments are more probable here, I think I'll revert to upping most of my stuff here from now on.

Hi there, just stopping by your sketchbook (not for the last time).

Your people studies are good, some are better than others but consistency will come with practice. I particularly like the sitting boy, lots of energy and expression in that one.

I will be back - keep going and thanks for the advice

Thanks Danyal for stopping by and commenting! The sitting boy is actually not a study, just a something from imagination, as most of my stuff are. Should study more like you

First is from real life, second one is from a photo, others from who-knows-where.

Decided to work further on a thumbnail. My starting idea for this was just that there is a man stranded on this rock. I liked the simple composition so I started developing it. Currently I have it titled "Last Man Standing"

Another speed paint... these are really fun to do, not getting attached to details and overworking, just getting the basic idea in there. I can see why people like concept art.

Nice speed paintings, might want to add a bit of detail somewhere to focus the eye

Today's painting attempt. The second one was supposed to be a snow scene so I didn't know where to use darker values... but it looks stupid without any darks. meh
