Portrait Drawing Tutorial

Hi All, i have a PDF of the Portrait tutorial however its just too big to put straight on here, so i have put it on zshare so you can download it.. its only 2.17mb but CA is 2.00mb at its maximum.

I have spent the last few weeks sorting this out and is all formatted for word, with images inserted, so posting the text on here without the images would be pointless.

great job overall!!

for me, some areas of potential:
- layout could be stronger to communicate the concepts as well as the structure of the text better
- some editing, still feels a bit like an unfinished script (really enjoy the personal style though!)
- maybe different formats could work, too? A wiki? Just a thought

Overall very cool, I'm sure it's a great introduction for beginners as well as a good reminder of solid foundations for more experienced students of drawing! Right on!

Layout, editing, format. Got Ya!! Yea, i have a tendency to forget the spellings sometimes (they are often invisible to spell checker because they Are spelt correctly, just obviously aren't for what actual word they are... does that make sense ha-ha.)

I will look into the layout and definitely the format... im pretty useless with that kind of thing usually but am more than willing to learn...

Interesting! Thx for the tutorial! I've seen your blog and stunned by your beautiful works

Btw, I've read few things about portrait drawing from "The Practice and Science of Drawing". It's said that portrait-drawing artist have more keen intuition to see the relationship between things in face (how nose compared to eyes, etc etc). I didn't quite catch the whole talking in that book's chapter (because it use "complicated" words, and I'm still a newbie), could you maybe explain more about that for me?

thnx everyone. Bluezace- i would personally think that, anyone practising anything in particular so often, so deeply and technically will eventually pick up on little nuances like what you say. i don't think these nuances are limited to art however. think of a hairdresser for example, spotting hair they know shouldn't be in that place ha-ha whatever, or how an experienced wine taster can tell by the smell which is an expensive wine in comparison to another. its all about practice.

One thing that I have in mind right now is about the (self-proclaimed) portrait-drawing artists I see in my town. I have lived in area near them since I was a little boy, I've been walked in front of their workplace everytime I went to my school for maybe countless time. But somehow the "feeling" when I see their works never change. It just like I look at a good portrait-drawing, but that artwork is "lifeless". And since then I only glance at their works, never really take a time to study it because I feel their works are creepy (maybe because it's dead and lifeless, I think it's creepy). I don't know I think and feel that way why though...

But is it possible that an artist "stuck" at some level? Because since long ago I've never see any works from those portrait-drawing artist that could "move" my feeling...
