hey buddy must say a big thank you to you for linking me to your ellipses write up. Looks like good stuff so ill def let you know how it goes. Your work is great. Good to see all the drawings from life. That Iron study is spot on makes me want to level up for sure. Think your taking a good approach getting your observational skills down drawing from life and learning about structure and shapes ect. It will def pay off in the long term and help you draw anything you turn your mind to. Well thats what I think any way. Always think you have to be able to depict real life accurately before the imaginative world ect starts looking good. Keep it up and keep the crits coming and I will be doing the same. Peace.

Hey, nice work with those Bridgman studies! And the best of all, you had a great time doing them!
Don’t be afraid to push the pencil a little harder in the shadowing, with those still life works. I know your scanner isn’t so good, so it might be that as well.

excellent interior and drawings from life, you're really improving a lot, and in a very short space of time. Thanks for explaining your goals, so you do product design? It shows when you draw the household objects (such as the iron in the latest point) you have a very clean, graphic style. Keep going mate

Woah, so much support in here! I'll try to earn it!

Lost Shock: Thank you! Yeah, I do a lot of eyeing with angles and perspective, and have practiced it a lot recently with the cubes. I do measure a lot with the pencil, comparing angles with horizontal/vertical, or trying to imagine a right triangle and compare the height to the width. I also use the pencil for measuring proportions and distances.

Greenhouse: Thank you! My scanner is indeed bright, but I can't use that excuse for every drawing! You're very much right, and I should work on my values and try some medium shifts to remind myself of what tones I can use.

black-swan : Wow, so nice of you to say! And all of these things, thank you! "Clean, graphic style", that sounds really badass, didn't even consider that I had a style yet. Thanks again for pushing and pulling me along!


Alrite, so this is all from life except for one cube, the face (ref) and the bottom one. The owl drawing is a year old I think, just stumbled upon it and thought it was pretty funny.


I've also done some cube studies. Blind contours, regular contours, quick drawings based on measuring angles/proportions or getting perspective consistent. They're useful, but I don't think they're too interesting to anyone else. When I started doing those, I thought "these will be easy to draw, I can use it as a building block to draw more complex things more easily". I was very wrong. They're useful because they're so damned hard to get exactly as I see them, since anything off will be so apparent, but so hard to fix without any outside references. It's obvious to the viewer that all corners of the original cube was 90 degrees, and all lines equal length, which makes it so easy to tell if the drawing isn't giving that impression.
tl;dr: I'll keep drawing cubes.

Wow...I got busy for a couple of months and come back to look at your sketchbook and you have improved a lot! Very inspiring. I really like your line and hatch work, especially in some of your face and skull studies. The variation of direction and size...it just seems to give a lot of texture and dimension to the drawings...probably stands out to me because it is something I want to improve on.

It is funny that you are doing some exercises from Drawing on The Right Side of the Brain. I just uploaded some of my hands with the view finder and the upside down pictures,too. Check it out if you get a chance, and keep posting. I look forward to seeing more! Thanks for sharing.

Hello! Your pencils are getting better and better.
The skulls are solid, but some of the heads look skewed, eg. the third to last looks like a pharao. But a few more skull studies should fix that. Reminds me to study more anatomy myself

dumbnudge: Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, heads are hard, I'm working on it. I should be doing skull studies, Asaro heads, perspective practice, the lot. Lots to do!

Mind, life. Also doing some work on wrapping my head around how to .. wrap lines around a head, or how heads are three-dimensional things with vanishing points and all that. Not posting that, though, as it's all very ugly-looking scribbles.

Hey, great variety in your work! I really like your nice and clean lines. The head shading in #104 is very nice and so are the hand and box studies in the latest.
My suggestion is that you also make some drawings from your mind, just to keep the fun and creativity. I think you’ve got great potential and I bet you’re going to blow our minds away in no time at all. Keep it up!

More or less all from mind here except the Loomis-plane heads. I always skew those, so annoying! Some Vilppu-blobs here too, his approach to drawing shapes looks like fun and kinda fits me at the moment, trying to get "depth sense" and all that.
