First of all, thanks to Majortom for the advice. I've pulled down his pelvis, and lengthened his right forearm and legs. Can't tell if its enough tho, it feels about right I guess. I also started working some colour into him. The face was coloured from grayscale, but for the body I wanted to speed up the process (eventually I want to be able to go right to colours without grayscaling first), so on that note I'm pretty much winging it. Can anyone tell me if I'm on the right track there?

Tres_Chic - Just a warning, but right now yours doesn't fit the 3/4ths rule, which is that we need to see 3/4ths of the character. Since we can't see past his waist, we can only currently see half...

Update with a few adjustments and a couple of tatoo ideas/scribbles. The tatoo of the playing cards is the only finished and certain one Im going to use. Much happier with the shading and definition on the torso, but the arms look wierd to me, think its the shoulders that are throwing me. Or maybe Im trying too hard to get it spot on.

    Tigress

    It's been a while since I participated in a CHOW....Free time=fun sketching!

So my concept...All of my characters have been in the typical hip out, hold spear pose, and this one was no exception...until! I decided I needed to work on some more dynamic posing.

She is performing the sacred dance of the tiger to appease his wrath. Her outfit is extremely powerful, being made up of tiger claws and tiger tails that she herself collected, and tattooed with stripes to mimic the might of the powerful beast.

I hope that I communicated a swaying movement with this sketch (I was thinking the sinewy way that a tiger moves would be echoed in the dance).

Surely there are plenty of anatomical flaws, but I put in my best effort, and hopefully I'm on the right track so far! Hope you like it!

Ooh, I didn't know that! Thanks. I'm new to this, so I'll remember that from now on. That'll probably help the picture to feel more complete, too.

So I've got a bunch of sketch concepts done... iterations on the original images you guys saw earlier. Still not sure which direction I want to choose for my final, though. Leaning towards technoderm implants, a cyber-glove, and the serrated horns, I think. Suggestions?

As for comments, I'd feel bad if I didn't leave some to the fabulous artists here.

Alex Boy: First off, what a unique background (to me ). The entire piece has a lovely playfulness to it, and the tattoos fit well on the character as a whole when they fit in to the "tribal" design niche. I really hope you finish this!

Kiwigarbage: Your style reminds me a lot of a style belonging to a friend I have. Soft graphite pencils, wide eyes, and a kind of whimsy and mellow kind of vibe to the entire thing. The upper body is excellent, but I think you've made the hips and -especially- the legs much too small relatively speaking. The kneecaps should be just below the page line, I think, in terms of length. Only a slight change, but it makes all the difference. Love the outfit, though!

Suneater: Merciless Egyptian guard vibe. Excellent. The detail and expression on the face are already spot-on, and the proportions are pretty solid, but the foreshortened hand and arm are losing it for me. The hand is about the right size, and in about the right place, but I think you need to hint more at the arm that it's blocking on the left and top sides of it. Otherwise it makes that arm look puny. Great color scheme too, by the way.

Jessi: Looking brilliant as always. I'm really a fan of the lighting and just... the colors you use on the piece: the purple-reds you're using remind me of a fruit, and create a great visual lushness and interest. I can't wait to see it finished in all its glory!

Good luck to everyone on finishing up!

...Will not be able to work on my entry untili finish the homework ;A; At least I'll give some comments:

Kiwigarbage - I like the idea and the feeling of the girl, but... Doesn't she seem a bit too "delicate" in comparison to the concept of the tiger? The swaying movement is ok, but IMO the hands should show a bit more strength. Maybe if they had a pose more "claw like"... Sorry for the crappy explanation, I hope you understand what I mean >_> Plus! Be careful with her left forearm, it looks a tad too long and stiff... I have the impression that the hand should be a little smaller, too.
Btw, I love how you did the torso and the hips, they look really cool
Aand other thing! Personally, I feel that the legs are a bit cut off... What about making her fullbody?

Alex Boy - Cool sketch! But, somehow, I have the impression that she's going to fall @_@ I think it's her left arm: wouldn't it be more equilibrated if it was a bit more to the right? Just saying, maybe it's just me-

Danbot386 - Love the tattoo of the four playing cards! Also, the right arm looks quite right to me, but I really can't say why the other one is not working very well... I'm sorry!

Suneater - The face is looking fantastic! Love how you did it- The colouring of the torso is looking cool as well, but I think it lacks a bit of strong darks, in comparison to the face. Also, the red additions look pretty aweosme on the face, maybe it'd look more consistent if you also used them in the torso. But I think you're going good!

Tres Chic - It's looking awesome already 8D Love the face! And for the BG, maybe if you made it a bit darker it'd work better-

I'm sorry I can't critique everyone, but the philosophy homework is calling me =__=

(btw, JessiBean's sketch is looking simply demoralizing on how good it is...)

    REvisions...

    And few notes.

Psychotrope:Looking great! I love the thought process behind it your process of flushing it out.
gloombunny:Looking really good, ALways love steampunk! On a side note you might want to check the eyes layout a bit, it is a little off and if you can balance them it will really bring the face together! Good work
Tommoy: Really Cool! I love the illusion your going with from the Tat lingerie.
Ruined: I love it, Tats with the mystical rituals. are very symbolic and think its a strong direction and piece.
majortom: I love the creativity and angle of your subject, can't wait to see the final! I am having a little trouble with the anatomy, but you are still in a loose phase, so it may pull together twards the end.
spaztastic: The progression and improvements are coming along wonderful. She seems like such a fun chick! keep it up.
    and lastly for now.

JessiBean:First of all Thanks for all the wonderful help and guidance to us all, Im sure your a pretty busy woman and taking time to reply to everyone is Kick Ass! Your piece is coming along beautifully, and sets a great bar for the rest of us to strive for.
    and
daestwen:The same goes for you. You are always here helping and making this possible for us all. Your piece is awesome and always look forward to your finals.

Everyone is doing great, just limited on time!

Here is my update... so far to go still.

DarkLogic- The highlights look a little far in range from the midtones, though it probably won't be noticable with the tattoos anyway.

SunEater - Because you have a stiff pose, it would work in your favor to do it in character sheet fashion, if only for one view, as you'll get to show him in full view, and without an unnecessary hand gesture. Plus it's easier if you want to provide a line drawing of a back/side view.

Bit more work, think I've fixed the face a bit, but will need to work on some sort of expression...

Thanks for the comment Jessi He's going to be an old bugger so I'll probably add some more scars too. Thanks for the heads-up on the 3/4 rule too, is this enough of him or should I still show more?

Finally found a way to tell this guy's story without getting too detailed and drawing all over his body. Hopefully it comes across clearly enough, still plenty to do (there's some text under the pic to select and see if the story makes no sense).

Another update. I felt he was lacking the proper amount of umph!, so I completely redid his body. Still needs a lot of rendering, and is still conspicuously hair and tattoo-less. Hope I got his left arm about right, foreshortening is a pain >.<

    Some comments

@Reymus, nice dramatic lighting and color palette. Its a little unclear how his legs are positioned, but the main problem I think is the inconsistent bleu light.
@Darklogic, nice one, I like how realistic the tat looks. I love the smoothness there witch I miss a little bit in other parts like the hands, the face and his clothing.
    @Jason Rainville, love it.
@Lady Chestnut, sweet style, don't make it too dark though.

OK, I posted mine on the final thread!!!!
I will post the whole illustration on my sketchbook soon.

The Whistler: I like it a lot!!! If we could see the full figure would be better.

Suneater: Wow he is full of bubbles LOL. I like how you are getting into the rendering!! The frontal view of his stomach is not in line with the slightly turned hips.

Liffey: good wip, waiting to see the progress and the tattoos.

Lady Chestnut: Nice sens of design and good presentation. The head is a bit off!!

darklogik: Nice rendering on the tattoos, the character look relay good for a game. I wish you could have included legs.

GoGoJojo: It is a nice illustration, but I can not see it as an art for the creation of a game character. I can not see her face, I do not know what is going on. Then again, I like it.

Jason Rainville: my favorite!! I still see no legs. I like how you are trying to tell a story with the tattoos, it is a great idea and concept!!!! Just try not to overdo the particulars of the drawings on hid body, or the reading gets confusing.

gloombunny: good wip, the anatomy is a bit week. Hope to see it finished!!!! i.e. the left arm is to short!

spaztastic: Looking much better, I like to see how you accept the critics and work on them.

Reymus: Very nice atmosphere!! I do not understand if he is floating, his left knee seems to be on the ground. The trousers seem to floating as well. I think the effect would work better if you added more floating elements, or just keep it simple and let the trousers follow the gravity.

NeuroN: welcome to the party!!!!! Nice outline!!! The hands look a bit puffy!! Again, I think a full view of the character would work more.

Psychotrope: Nice studies!! edit "Leaning towards technoderm implants, a cyber-glove, and the serrated horns"...mmm... well, do ot fall into the Hellboy trap. Really looking forward to the development of your ideas!!!

kiwigarbage: Like how u decided to challenge your self with more dynamic poses!! You are right in saying that there are anatomic flaws, but I like your choice of not too common hands poses. You just need to check your proportion more, some of the fingers are to short. What I do, wen I draw on paper, is to lay it on the window, face out, so I can see it from a flipped point of view. One more thing I do to keep the pencils clean, is to wear a fingerless glove or put a sheet of paper under my hand, so that it does not touch the main page.

Alex Boy:Like it a lot. The hand on the tree could use some fixing!!

Danbot386: It looks a bit flat, I do not know if is due to the coloring or to the absence of the hips. And I thin u should reconsider the grass, it gives a strange prospective, so that he look he has his feet underground.

wiegetie: Not much to crit, it is at an early stage... but her anatomy needs fixing before you go on to coloring it. If u do not have enough time, I can tell you that a well proportioned sketch, in black and white, can always attract a lot of compliments!!!

Tres_Chic: nice!!! More like a pin up then a game character, but I tend to do the same mistake a lot. For the background I would say that if you do not have a particular setting, it is then more of a balancing game. I would like to give you more advice, but I never studied arts so..just go with what you like and get all the crits you can to improve.

    l.sheridan: Looking good!!!

Obacmar: Wow the back wall rendering is really sweet! But it creates a conflict with the rendering of the dragon, they thought of not fit to well.

    Atom James: very very nice!!!

tokotewhero:Awesome!!! I just love that loose feeling!!!

    daestwen:NOW...That is a PINUP!!!! Nice

JessiBean: Grate coloring, grate pose, just the top!!! If I may...the left hand, that is closer to the viewer, looks smaller then the right hand in the background.

Ooookay, last update before I'll submit the finished piece, if I get it done in time. So far I'm quite pleased with how he's coming along. Didn't expect he would be blond though

Torso is now pretty much done ('cept the hands).

I'm really appreciating all the great feedback I've been getting, thanks for helping me out ^.^
