    Sooooo....... how's it going?

I've been attending the TAD Discovery course and today I got some honest, non-sugar-coated feedback from Kemp Remillard and Sterling Hundley (thanks guys, the feedback was fantastic). It was feedback I definitely needed to hear to get better at this crazy concept art business.

That 10 minutes of feedback was enough to inspire me to start this sketchbook, so..BAYAM.

I'll start with some of my more recent stuff - both finished and unfinished.

This is a piece I did for a friends animation project. I procrastinated in doing this for far too long. Ehhhhhhh not happy with it tbh but I'm glad I can move onto other pieces now.

TAD has also finished which means I've got a bit more time to draw. It was a great course - so much so that I applied for a scholarship in their 18 month course. Fingers crossed.

Much looser pieces coming right up. Woohoo!

Deboyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Thanks man, I'll be trying to stick to this new sketchbook-routine'y business.

I've been all sci-fi'd out for a really long time, but then Mass Effect 2 and Final Fantasy came out. BAM, instant inspiration. And heck yes those are rose petals. Why? Cause even sci-fi towers need to smell good.

    Bring on the spaceships, yo!

Diarum - thanks! I agree, I know I need to draw more characters, but I hate painting characters. Terrible excuse I know. I am actually making a point of sketching more figures - I should really post some of that stuff up eh?

    Congrats on the scholarship!
I loved your EOW from a couple of weeks ago (the snow one) as well as your other enviros. Looks like everyone's getting inspired from Mass Effect. I want to play it but I think it would eat away a lot of drawing time

Hey Mike, first off the bat congratulations on the scholarship! That is freaking terrific!

I really like the atmosphere and very high tech feeling you are able to bring to your concepts. You are very good with the mood as well.

Would love to see some more stuff and personally some figurative.

So I'm curious, what was the feedback you got back from Sterling and Remillard if you wouldn't mind sharing?

Grrreeat, now let's see more of these goodies Mike

Eddieee - thanks man, appreciate it. Haha yah, that game can definitely suck you right in and soak up your time. I'm tempted to play through again!

Jussi - thanks a lot! Figurative work is definitely my weakness and I am trying to improve in that area - I need to! In regards to the feedback, most of it was aimed at my composition and also the subject matter I choose to paint. Both of which I'm focusing a lot more on now.

Geez... I have been terrible with the updates here, so this is long overdue.

First pic is a bunch of composition experiments that sorta went nowhere as well as some colour experiments. The second pic is a study of Pringle's work - NOT MY OWN WORK ORIGINALLY! After this I've got a bunch of other composition experiments, none of which was stuff I was proud to put on my blog. Maybe I'll come back to it one day though. More to come!

    Some more stuff

The first 3 pics are some photo studies. The next 2 pics are just face sketches - something I very much need to practice. The last pic is my first incredibly lame attempt at a character since the Team Chow a few months back. Ewww characters

The first 3 pics are life drawings and pose studies. The 4th pic was my attempt to make something from random chaotic shapes - inspired by The Black Frog. The 5th pic is a composition that I like but am still experimenting with in terms of finish. I'll continue working this one through, hopefully something will come of it.

These are my most recently completed pics. I've been trying to really focus on simplicity in my work the last couple of weeks instead of over-rendering everything, cause as everyone here probably knows - its a headache! Bad habits really are hard to break.

Hopefully from here I can also keep up with the updates here. Fingers crossed!

All the characters I draw turn into robots. Coincidence? I think not!

Conscious effort to do something a little less generic starts now!

    ...alright alright, tomorrow.

    Updating is hard!

Top of the first pic is a 1 hour photo study, bottom of the first pic is me trying to apply what i learned from the study in my own 1 hour pic. Hmmm didn't learn anything too good obviously! This is some new weekly exercise I'm doing with Deboyyyyyyy-ah aka Arthur 'Two Sheds'. I really hope i get better at these.

Next pic is a photo study I'm currently doing of a natural environment, focusing mostly on rock texture. I've learned that rocks are awesome to draw, but hard to detail and make look natural.

Pic after that is a bunch of pose and head studies. I really need to get better at this character thing.

The last pic is an enviro I just finished tonight - you can see a wip in an earlier post.

    More to come!

I noticed my figure studies from the previous post didn't come up for some reason, so I'll try again now:
