Do you only use airbrush for coloring sculptures?
Or also for art on paper or other materials?

I used to airbrush a little time ago. scooters/ walls n stuff.

I also make a sculpture once in a while.
But never never! as great as this.

up to now, i hadnt considered sculpting my drawings...but with this tutorial i will definitely start.

I saw this in your thread ....

"Also, I'm doing a Gnomon dvd on maquette sculpting as well, so look out for that later in the year."

I noticed that Gnomon has some sculpting DVDs already. Are yours coming up? If not, do you know anyting about the ones they have. (ie: Are they helpful to a complete novice?)

Again...thanks for all the praise, my ego runnith over. The Gnomon thing is on hold for now mainly because of busyness with MassiveBlack. I'll definitely put something out there, but right now it's too chaotic. The dvds they have are good, definitely a help to the novice, but like any 'art' lessons, they are just one person's technique. But they are helpful. Thanks again to all those that have come by and checked things out. I'll post a couple in progress pics of a sculpt I'm working on in a few days. Not a total in depth process thing, but progress shots nontheless.

What a God send!!! This has to be the most helpful thing Ive ever seen on the web! I ALWAYS got rough edges when I sculpt, I would have never thaught of the turpintine thing. Thank you thank you thank you!!!! And please...give us more of your secrets! I shall be purchasing your products now!

What an incredible tutorial. I've been looking for this kind of thing in book stores and was willing to pay the price. Just one question tho. Why do you use tools to rough up the surface in the beggining stages of the scuplt? Thanx a bunch.

Thanks dyno; I use a rake tool for the same reason they use one in a sand pit on a golf course...to even out the surface, take out the highpoints. Same idea as sand paper, but in a larger form.

Hey Smelly bug, any chance of you putting together a book or something on the web maybe of nice Hi res pics of all the stuff you have done over at Tippets place, I see lots of small pics but nothing really high res that you can set and really get a good look at, thats a lot of really incredible work and it seems like it should be on display a little more I guess is my point, like that big draco sculpt and all that stuff from evolution, Troopers, etc just great stuff but no where to really check it out.

P.S. now just mass produce that stuff as resin kits!!!! hahaha that would rule I would go broke in a day buying that stuff!!!!!

Ok. So I got the sculpy, the pasta maker, tools oh ya some colour sculpy then some armature wire some more tools and have finaly found the time to sculpt. But now I have no money.lol that ain't so bad cause hey this way I can stay in and do it. again thanx a bunch. maybe I'll put it up when I'm done. let you guys have a crack at me.

This thread/site/forum/s is awesome. I've been sculpting [as a hobby] for a longtime.

I've been so dismayed at those Jen & Kira dolls made by Side Show toys, they looked like ugly bastard children from the orginal designs in the film The Dark Crystal. Soon I will begin sculpting a version of Kira to my liking. This thread has really spurred my imagination. Good stuff Y'all.

Hello....I am currently working on my first super sculpey piece (photos to follow) and I am having difficulty with smoothing out the sculpey and making the final "coat" uniform...any suggestions?? If I were using regular clay, a bit of water and presto....with the polymer clay, however, I am finding it somewhat difficult...especially when it comes to fine details like the face...Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

wow what a pro .you are a breath of fresh terpinoid to this buis.you should make a video or book id buy it in a heart beat so nice to see someone as talented as you share with the rest of us im the same .ive been sculpting for 15 years and share all my info with everyone .its only going to make this industry grow so why not.anyway im rambling incredible,original,clean,profesional,you are a credit to this field .you should be very proud of yourself and please keep going.do have any pieces that you have done as commision that i could purchase ,or self produced pieces i collect resin kits and was wondering if you have done any?(you probably have so many pieces on the market allready and i just dont know who you are.)

Thanks for such an excellent tutorial - it has re-ignited my interest and desire to sculpt again in clay and not just polygons. Can't wait for the texture tutorial! How about a Painting Techniques tutorial? I watched a making of LOTR extra recently and they used the same principle of airbrushing skin textures on digital skin to give Gollum that realistic and veiny look. I'd love to see that technique in action if you could...

Thank you very much for this tutorial!! I have worked much with high fire clays and armatures for that material, but I have always had trouble with Sculpy. You really helped me to break out of my shell and not be so timid with this material.
