I'm in as well! How does this work exactly? Should we make a common schedule and try to respect it?
Kyurai, in the first drawings I think you should check the height of the kneecap (patella!)

EDIT: my last bridgmans in my sketchbook if you guys wanna help, i'll post my next ones here as well

Gaussianraider, to make it easier for us, add the link to your sketchbook in signature.

ajtabril, I like the breakdown of the cube measurements.
I've been busting my tail trying to finish my entry for a imaginfx challenge. I'm almost done though, so I can start on the Bridgman studies again.

    hey,

sorry for not posting for so long. I did draw(did my homework here, heh) but i did something sorta stupid. I got annoyed and replaced Windows with Kubuntu and only after that i found out that there are no drivers for my scanner. Nice huh ? So i will scan them at a friend s computer and luckily i will be able to post tonight.

@ajtabril: i see that you re really studying the studies, so to speak. So what i see in the 2 problematic drawings is this:
    - in the first one(something weird guy) - the lower part of the body is a little strange. I think it comes from the leg in the foreground. It will never start that high on the body.
    - in the second one(the weird legs) - yeah i think you spotted it right. The legs are
a bit awkward, so he looks like he s going to fall over. There is this thing that my 4th grade drawing teacher taught me (probably everyone was thought this, but it stuck in my mind): the center of the head and the center of the foot have to be on the same vertical line so the figure has balance. I think that if you angle the foot in the foreground a little more it will look right.Right now the upper part of that leg is to straight and stiff.

    @GaussianRider: - first of all welcome !
[QUOTE] Should we make a common schedule and try to respect it [\QUOTE] - yeah, that s the ideea. I think it will be easier for all of us to see and maybe critique each other if we stick to the same chapters.
    - and please add a link to your sketchbook in your signature

Sooo, since we are almost finished with the first chapters, i thought it was time to see how we can apply what we learned. (sorry if it sounds too much like what a teacher would say).

i looked around a little and found a few photo references for wedging and interlocking and for the Balance chapter (not there yet, just planning a little ahead ).

    Wedging and interlocking:
    http://www.characterdesigns.com/band...%20008_015.JPG
    http://www.characterdesigns.com/band...et_034_101.jpg
    http://www.characterdesigns.com/band...e_000_0020.JPG
    http://www.characterdesigns.com/band...e_000_0009.JPG
    http://www.characterdesigns.com/band...e_000_0001.JPG

    Balance:
    http://www.characterdesigns.com/band...t_035_0071.jpg
    http://www.characterdesigns.com/band...et_030_135.jpg
    http://koukei.deviantart.com/art/balance-V-57635480
    http://www.characterdesigns.com/band...t_035_0105.jpg
    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__sie4iKEJQ...400/ballet.jpg

What i want to do is just block out the big masses of the figures, so i can see how the masses go together. I think that for me it s good practice to see the human body in different angles from the ones in the book. And also see if i can break them up. since in the book everything is already outlined for you and there is no work in identifying the parts.

And for the balance part, i think it s obvious, i want to see how the masses are distributed in order for the human body to mentain its balance. I want to find the balance line and see from there what body part helps balance another part.

So, you guys wanna do this ? it s just and idea, so let me know if it sounds good or not, or if the pictures are ok for the purpose or not

I have done this studies, I know that I am not so fast but it's impossible, i would like that the day had 100 hours (only 8 for work, please ).
I have enjoyed with this draw, specially with the last one, now the legs don't look like weird, i hope.
I will start with the movable masses to try to understand how the body works in a complete one.

@ajtabril: i completely agree with the 100 h day, under your conditions
The last drawings are looking very good. I don t think i have any critique about them.

    @kmoeini: welcome aboard !
to me, your drawings look a little rushed, like you don t have enough patience for them.
btw, you don t have to rush and ketch up or anything for these, just as long as you enjoy doing them

@klandestineone: if first you don t succeed, try, try again ? :p

    Ok...trying this again....

Sometimes it's hard to see what Bridgman is drawing, for me anyway. When you see the smaller studies, you have to remember how anatomy works in that given pose.

    Klandestineone,
Your lines are very clean, and I like how you drew the 6 poses larger.

I found this forum a little late, but I'm in as well. I've been going through Hogarth's head studies, but I'd also like to do some full body studies with Bridgman.

sorry for not login in for such a long time:
@Heliux: welcome to the bridgman study thread!

@Klandestineone: those look great, i didn t have the patience for all the little ones, but then again patience is not one my virtues.
i love the lines in those drawings ... so clean.

and now a little spam... i just have to brag, can t help it:
i have been taking care of this little critter the past week, his name is Data

    Hey guys.

Alright I think its a good idea to set a few intentions for my study because I know I've got some issues that need to be worked out in my figure studies and its better to have a cohesive focus.

-I'd like to accurately draw foreshortened figures. (I'm so bad at this and its a big Achilles heel for my drawings)

-my measurements are off on my previous figure work-limbs longer than they should be and that such.

-certain anatomical features are left out-muscles not flexing when they should be, guess work on certain smaller bones, ect.

-I have a hard time completing a preconceived idea-instead I kind of feel out a figure and its pose, which lets the drawing take control of me instead of vice-versa, so I think the answer lies in a preconceived thumbnail and drawing the whole figure instead of pieces growing outward.

My scanner is in Texas and my camera battery in New York, so after I make to move back to Cali I'll see about mailing it or borrowing a friends to put my sketch stuff up, but in the mean time I'll date the stuff in my sketchpad and do digital. ;|

All right here's my update. I'm going to get back on track with these studies. Slacking is not good for an artist. Thanks for the comments, guys.

Here's my update. I did a couple of studies based on those links you posted, kyurai. I'm afraid I didn't nail the Bridgman style too well.

in theory, this is a bridgman thread, but if you want you can post loomis too.

it has a different approach, but in general it deals with the same main chapters
