NSFW soros learns to draw nude figure above and under

YOU WANT TO SEE THE UPDATE ? SO CHECK THE LAST PAGE...

Ooooh! Nothing but nude figures and figure studies in here at the moment. I am trying to add some hair, face details and drapery as soon as I am well enough in drawing the nude figure. Could be in a few decades, hehehe.

I am a Trainee. So tell me my mistakes! Every little mistake you can find! I want to learn, learn, learn. Tell me, what I have to practice and which positions you want to see here, please!

Front ? Back ? Fat ? Skinny ? Male ? Female ? Old ? Pregnant ? Figure ? Sculpture / Cast drawing ? Body parts like arms or neck ? Above ? Under ? Foreshortening ? I try to find a picture or drawing and I'll try to draw the position.

    Here we go...

The female figures look great. However, the males both seem to be far too short for the size of their head. The torso looks about one head length too short and almost 2 too short for the legs.

Due to all the mortal weapons in many drawings here's another toy for all who want to play war: The bubble gun. The second picture is fanart. I had the idea today when I saw the light in the lens of wanimal's Nikon camera.

You're too concerned about drawing the contours of things... the "outside edge"

That's not how to do it. You need to understand the structure of the thing, and build it from the inside out.

Drawing the figure is a complex business. Starting by learning the "anatomy" of simpler 3D forms would be of good use to you. Gestures of spheres is a good exercise. Simple geometries (like that of spheres and boxes) builds into more complex geometries (like that of the human body)... and there's no way you can make a body look convincing simply by drawing a wavy line to describe an outline of it. You have to know the structure to make it look convincing.

Start at the beginning, and you'll improve faster.

Rather than typing out my crit (too tired), I'll just quote P sage because that is pretty much exactly what I was going to write. I think you're hanging on to that outside contour a bit too much without enough concern for the way the forms are fitting together and it really flattens out your drawings. My advice is to take P sage's advice. Good luck with your work.

strybjorn: Yeah, you're right! I avoid working on the faces because I can't even draw the face proportions right. Same with drapery. (as I wrote in the sketchbook intro) I don't know if it is the right way to practice drawing faces at the moment. Maybe only the skull-form to get the whole human figure on the way, Sir Cam and p sage told me.

Sir Cam: Thanks for your crit! I'll try to draw the bodys with more geometrical forms... but my eye is guided by the skinfolds instead of the skeleton and mass under the skin. That might be the mistake which flattens the drawings from my 3D-View into the wrong 2D-Communication of my drawings.

Anyway... I'll keep the drawings coming as they come. I'll buy the Michael Hampton book, if I can get it to learn the building of the right forms into the whole figure.

I don't fully agree with this comment. You have to be able to strike the arabesque (outline) of your subject and work from general to specific. I agree you should understand anatomy and practice tone with basic shapes etc... but learning to draw just with line quality is actually very good practice. Being able to strike the entire shape of your subject is the first crucial skill to learn, I would suggest working more on tone to describe form as well as (or instead of depending on your preference) line and practice achieving a good set of values.

Marine Blue: Thanks for visiting and your comment! How would you start to learn or practice value? Simple forms? Different pencils? (Remember my own goal to find a shadow-style by crosshatching - not by the way I did at the monk or in the following drawing)

theres loads of potential here man - you just have to make loads of work i think and it'll all come good.

i can see you tend to avoid working on faces - i think that if can find out what it is that you avoid, then work like a demon studying that then you'll see masses of progress...

keep churning out the work mate!

don't stress too much about figure. these are pretty entertaining to look at already. The camera and quality of the scan is a bit annoying though.

Those figures are looking good, but you may want to study values and perspective which will make your figures even better.

I was trying to draw from that photo and did a mistake on the head proportions. After that I searched a photo of a shark and I added some shark-like stuff to the figure. If you ever meet this animal under water: swim away as fast as possible

Great, I don't want to meet that shark guy . It looks like you have a unique style already which is good I think. There is already some good advice given so keep it up.
