    Queen Worm needs help!

After seeing so many beautiful art works, it really needs courage for me to apply for a sketch book. I am pretty new here, hope could learn from your critiques.
I am a media design student in age 20. Because I don't have a solid understanding of traditonal art, I am not good at coloring,,, Pencil Sketching is ok I guess,,,
I just started my digital painting recently. It was fun but difficult in some aspect,,,really need more practice,,,I hope I could update often and learning from you guys' masterpieces!!
Here are some pictures I am working on recently.

Sorry for bad English,,,and thanks for your critiques!!

Welcome to CA!! Nice start to your sketchbook. To bump up your painting skills if suggest just painting alot from observation and imagination. Post some drawings when you have the time too

    atmosphere most of the time,,,

I try to do some anotomy studies,,,I barrowed some books from

Hi there! This sketchbook is a very good start.

If you want to study anatomy, I suggest starting with Andrew Loomis books (they are available for free on the web). Read what he has to say and re-draw pictures from the book, keeping in mind what you learned from the text. It requires a lot of going back and forth. Draw, read, draw. But it pays off in the end :]

As for life drawing, you can easily set up a still life and draw that Start with simple objects and move to more complex compositions. I can't give you much advice on drawing people from life because I'm too uncomfortable drawing them on the street or wherever x) If you have a big mirror, you can always draw yourself I guess.

    Good luck!~

It just takes some time Queen, yes copy the drawings in the book and copy them over and over again Add some more contrast to your digital paintings, all the colors have a similar value and saturation. Do some still lifes and try to see whats going on with the colors.

Your doing well keep it up.

Donna-Thank you for your advices on anatomy studies and life drawing. I will check the book on the internet. I hope I can start this part as soon as possible though I am quite busy recently,,,draw, read, draw!!! Thanks again for comming!!

Dy.laneA-Yes, just like what you said there is little saturation and contrast,,, I do need more time to do the investigation on others' art works and still life drawing. Photo drawing might be another issue for me,,,I will keep working on this picture to add more color and contrast as possible. Thanks!

Thanks both of you, really learn some information!!

Nice work. Hmmm what should you do next, maybe do some more work with proportions. I see in all the drawings you did in last update you have a very small head hah! So keep that in mind next time your doing figures. Keep it up Draw when ever you have time!

Cool stuff queeny. Hmmm how are you going about coloring these? Are you oing grey scale then useing the color blend mode to colorize the images? If you are I would stay away from that! Do straight on color, its hard but you will learn alot.

Dy.laneA-Well, that's what make me feel frustrated on coloring,,,I "don't" work on coloring like painting in gray scale then create another layer, changeing blending mode,,,I do pick colors from color picking panel, but I just don't have courage to choose those high saturated colors,,,My works in between grey scale and colored,,,Just like you said it's quite difficult, still struggling,,,Is there any way to learn about that? I think the only way is learn water color or something like that, maybe after I graduate form university,,,

    Thanks for your comments!!

some practice on proportion~It seems that head is still too small in some cases,,,
Hm,,,and some practices on ZBRUSH,,,In our school we have to learn lots of things like interactive devices and CIS,,,so I have to learn MAYA and ZBRUSH by myself~,,,Sorry for low qualities,,,

Hey Queen! Hmmm I think a good way to practice color is to either do quick, really quick color studies from photographs. Don't realyl worry about rendering all that much just make a quick thumbnail of the blocks of color you see.

Another good way is just a simple still life of any old house hold object with a very simple shape and try and copy the colors you see.

Its fustraiting, but that only means your learning!!

kabarsa-Thank you!! Hope these practices paid off some day....

Dy.laneA-Thank you for helpful suggestion, I will try these methods. Hope I can upload some more practice recently,,,quite busy nowadays because I am animation and media design major,,,

Feel better and much comfortable after talking to you guys!

New upload!! Well, I exaggerated some part of the body and the head, changing proportion,,,and I try to use more saturated color and contrast this time.

Nice sketchbook, you seem to be tackling a lot of different things at the same time which might be overwhelming, but you seem to be handling it fine. As far as critiques, I think you can improve your values a bit more. Perhaps try painting in greyscale for a bit and tackle colors at a later time?

    Keep it up!

Thank you, Cgaddict!! Yes,,,I feel overwhelmed recently because of learning so many things in the same time. I have to,,,it's my grsduation project. Color is really my big problem,,,I try to use those high saturated color but maybe after two hours those colors well be blended or covered by those low value colors,,,I try to do the practices that other people on the upstair suggested but I just don't have enough time,,,
    Thanks again!

Even though I like your painting technique, I would like to see some more of your studies such as those slick-looking figures you did.

Here are some new stuff for a character deign contest, not quite happy with the result,,,but it's close to deadline. The contest title is "future", so I combine some native religious symbol and mechanical elements.
