    Need some mentoring.

Hello, my name is River. I am Native American I am from Canada.
I am 15 years old and I have loved art since I was just little.

My dad is an artist he does lots of cultural stuff related to
    native beliefs & stories.

I don't live with him and I don't see him much so I can't learn from him.

I just need a mentor that I can talk to when I have questions or someone who can give me tips as I am a beginner.

My life has been chaotic for a few years now and I haven't been able to keep
my work that I have done. Most of my good work I've done was at school and the teachers always wanted to keep it so I just let them.

I have about 5 sketchbooks that are empty so I wanna get going and gain lots of experience and become even better then I am now I just don't know where to start.

    Hi River

where to start? Do you have a camera or scanner (or do you work digitally)? Your best way to start here would be to start a sketchbook thread, do some work and post it, so people can see the sort of things you can currently do, and what you are interested in.

You'll then get some feedback, will be able to get some discussions up and running with folks, I'm sure will get lots of advice and help. If you are still needing someone to act as a specific mentor for you, again it will help if we know a bit more about the sort of art you do now, and what sorts of art you think you might like to develop and learn about.

    Hi River,

I'll go ahead and add you on msn. I don't have time to really create any weekly projects or anything, but I can help with giving general dirction or critique and answer any questions you might have.

I'm pretty interested in Canadian aboriginal culture, and myself and a native friend of mine (Ojibwe, from Sagamok in Northern Ontario) talk a lot about cool stuff in their military history etc. I've also tried to portray natives in my art sometimes, though I wouldn't call it "native art" since I'm just an outsider looking in.

    Talk to you soon
