good start, nice you got clear objectives that is one of the key things to have in mind, might want to write down what you suck most at and work from there, tho i dont think you suck at all it all comes to practice and learning the theory behind it all, i recommend some constructive anatomy to begin and doing some gestures theres alot of information here and in the internet, work your ass off and i promise you will see results

another thing too, find a pace you are comfortable with and stick to it so you dont get overworked or depressed, and if thats the case thats what we all are here for

lionheartGFX Thanks man. I've done tons of gestures in the past, and they weren't really useful. I try to get some basic anatomy down first and then I'll try gestures again. Perhaps they make more sense / are more useful then.

    --------------------------------------

Anatomy stuff from Hampton and also applying it to some reference photos. Jesus, it's nice to understand what's happening in the reference photo.

Anatomy really makes sense when you finally understand what you're drawing, damn!
Should have done this stuff way earlier! D:

First one is just from Hamptons book and the last drawing is drawn without reference. I basically wrote down my standpoint and where I need to improve most, considering the figure.

Unfortunately I didn't get as much time today as I wanted to have.
But here's another one I finished right now.
They take me longer than exptected, usually around 1-2 hours, which is kinda long in my opinion.

Hey, nice lines. You should probably spend more time learning gesture drawings. Learn the basic proportions and flow of the body then move onto the good stuff (muscles and stuff)

(basically more full body stuff would be nice )

telohs Thanks man. I'll go back to gesture drawing soon, but in my opinion it's easier to describe the gesture when you know which lines describe which "feature".

    -------------------------------

Here's the updated as I said. The exam is finally over and went better than expected.
It's from my life drawing class that takes place every monday for 2 hours.
This isn't all of the stuff (to be honest, only the best) but still learned tons. Can't wait for next week.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Good mixture of studies, don't forget mixing in gesture with your anatomy, proportion is good but keep your character loose. Always spend some time working from imagination every now and then so you can put all your studies to use.

Yeah, I guess that is true. but have you read Loomis successful figure drawing book? He suggests using a mannequin just for learning proportion and motion stuff, I think it's really good. But, of course, you might as well spend some days learning all the anatomy, guess it's nothing wrong with that. Just make sure to accompany it by lots of gestures later on

Also. Nyan! You lack a lot of moe in your sketchbook(not to be taken seriously).

    *edit

Welp guy above me said almost same thing. Oh well, nothing wrong with being spoon fed :3

Ixallus Thanks dude. I'll try to do 50/50 studies/imagination.

telohs Thanks. I'll try to look up the mannequin again. Sounds interesting and I can't remember what he described there.

    SophieW Thanks Sophie! ^.^

Finished up the sketchbook page (looks kind of messy, but that's what sketchbook are made for, lol) and an WIP of an painting I need to paint for school. For now just the rough color scheme, but I think I go with that scheme.

Ohhh, I just came home from "The Hobbit" - Jeesus, this movie was freaking good.
I would have loved to stop the movie sometimes just to paint these awesome landscapes.
They've done such a freaking good job on it.
I need to rewatch it <.< Now!

But enough about pure awesomness aka The Hobbit.
Here's an acrylic speed painting I did today.

A bit late from my side but welcome to CA ! Great start. Looks like you are on the right track. Keep churning out the anatomy studies . The acrylic paintings are looking awesome. Would love to see more of those. They have a great mood to them. The gorrilaz sketches are awesome. Love the lines on those. Keep them coming.

Very exciting start here! At this stage, best thing to do is just draw, draw, learn, draw, learn and draw some more and don't give up! It's a hard journey but you will get there.

I think you're doing pretty good. I too was going to suggest more gestures and I saw this post:

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. Gestures don't FEEL helpful, because early gestures usually look like a flaily mess instead of something super pretty. Gestures aren't about pretty - they're about exploring shapes and movement. If you realize you've drawn something at a wrong angle- just carve a new one over it. - maybe your drawing ends up with 3-4 arms or 5 heads, great! that means you're beginning to see better.

Some drawing exercises are like that. Your results are ugly- and sometimes you feel better burning the evidence than posting the results- but it's what you learn in the process that matters.

The best lesson I ever learned is that your sketchbook doesn't need to be pretty. it can be full of hideous mistakes, exploratory sketches, notes, and crude diagrams.
Save the anal stuff for long studies and clean drawings.

So go do more gestures. They ARE helping. I promise.

    Happy sketching ^_^

Kayshay Thanks. Replied to your sketchbook! ^.^

sin eater I am not totally new to conceptart, I was already lurking around before. Thanks man!

    Qikalain Thanks man!

AllyAlbon Totally sign. I need to draw draw draw and paint paint paint!

Rhubix Thanks man! I didn't mean that I don't like that they look shitty. That's something I don't care about because I know that they are just studies. But I just couldn't get as much out of them as I hoped I could. But I will do them anyways again. It won't hurt me, lol
    Thanks!

Sooo many replies, awesome. Motivation +5! >

I want to bump into digtal painting again. Perhaps I'll do a still life or master study tomorrow.
For that I also opened a livestream account:

But I'm going to announce it when I go live.

I think the doily looks weired and unfinished and you could work on the leaves more with contrasts then outlines !

In your gesture drawings, you use a lot of hard edges. Especially in the hip areas. You should practice more on smooth shapes and lines, really try and "feel" the subject you're drawing.
