Very solid work! I really dig your value statements in some of the sketches, they're very well done and believable. May I ask what types of pencil(s) you use for those? Keep it up!

Yes I agree, perhaps now is the best time study and practice and when there's confidence in the work you can be more confident to make a decision

    Unhappy 19 March 2010

Hello again! I'm back. I've been feeling quite discouraged the past few weeks, plus very homesick!!! not very happy here in the UK ^^; not good! anyway, that's my problem, here is some work i managed to do during that time. I hope it gets better soon. These are some of the layouts i did for my animation pitch for uni.

Loving the homeless perspective drawing and the one before it. The man's head looks a bit big though. Anyway, great work!

Abrodos: Thank you! Oops! Didn't notice that! But I'm scared to adjust it

I went back to life drawing! I think I'm understanding form a bit better, but I wish I could improve my gestural drawing. I used to be able to do it really well before I became obsessed with line... >_< If i can't draw a good gesture how am i supposed to make a good drawing??? dilemma...

Keep these drawings up, maybe, and this is a big maybe mind you, but if you're having issues with gesture, perhaps you may be jumping into the detail too quickly with the line.

I had a look at some of your earlier work and the line quality is fair for the most part though.

One thing which you could look at over some time is your proportion.

hey Kungfoowiz sorry for the late reply thank you for the critique and advice! Yeah, i think that is a major issue, so ive started with the basics again, gerstural lines and spherical forms. I borrowed the Vilppu Drawing Manual from the library and have more time to go through it at my own pace now mwaha! And yes, proportions: i tend to make my figures too long i feel, but what do you think? Do you have any advice on proportions? Thanks for checking out the sketchbook i really appreciate it!

i've bee really busy with the course, but most of the deadlines have been met so i hope to start posting once more!

Bella - Some advice on proportion, sketch out some construction lines, and then divide in half, and keep dividing in half, measuring in heads. If you divide in half it usually gives you a more accurate measure. Do the length of the figure like this and you should be okay.

    Work from May

Hello everyone, excuse my absance ^^; the thread had trouble uploading my pictures for a couple of weeks, but everything should be ok now. I've finished my 2nd year in animation production mwahaha! Also, my pitch for the graduation film got through so I will be directing my film for my final year along with 14 other films (total of 15 grad films) Now I really need to improve my work quickly!

Thanks for the comments! Kungfuuwiz, I really appreciate the advice, thank you! I'll try the devision rule. I found what also helps is Da Vinci's (if i remember correctly) rule that if you take out the legs and the figure is from the knees to the head, the belly button is the centre of the figure. I've started thinking of the proportions this way, as well as using the headcount.

I have a couple of proportion studies that I did early May:

Hey, looking awesome!! Your figures feel nice and chunky which is a good thing. First drawing, pelvis seems a touch too big. Last drawing, feels like the torso is big as compared with the pelvis.

In any case, keep up the fantastic drawings, really try to push yourself with your studies, they're looking great okay. =)

Hi again! Holiday's nearly over for me T_T Hope you all had a good holiday!

Some sketches of which I did for the graduation film that I'm directing ! These are all sketches that were done for a scene in the film, but the scenes have been removed to make the film less complicated. Please give me your criticism, feedback, suggestions, etc! I'd love to hear from you and frankly I NEED the crticism from other artists Thanks! Hope to hear from you!

I also started studying proportions, I think I understand proportions more and it's made drawing the human figure much easier and more enjoyable!

Some of these are from observation others are from imagination!

Hey LtPlissken thanks a lot for the encouraging comments, it means a lot to me : ). I was really happy to read that.

I've been away working on the grad film and i have been studying here and there, but nothing worth posting here. I'm slowly feeling inspired though, it's coming back to me!

    Speaking of inspiration..

Ben Shafer is awesome! I saw a wonderful ink drawing done by him called Shafer Pherousa, I felt really inspired, so I tried my own drawing haha ^^.

There are a lot of anatomical problems amongst other things, but I am still happy with it ^_^

    Thanks LtPlissken!

The graduation film is nearly there nearly done T____T. I just want it off my back!! XD I did 3 studies of Tomb Raider Underworld to study lighting and colour and values. TRU has some pretty locations ^^ The last one was more successful than the first two I think the values are much better.

    Ribcage

I really had difficulty with the colours in this one. I tried to balance the cool colours and the warm colours, but it ended up a bit muddy in the end. The values are getting better i think.
