Hey everyone! I recently turned 20 and thought it would be about time I joined CA.org! I've been following CA for a year now but have been too scared to join! I'm currently studying Animation Production and my work is influanced and inspired by many artists and genres. I hope that by starting a sketchbook here on CA I can grow and improve! Please feel free to post any suggestions, comments, or critiques, I'd really appreciate your help!

I think this'll be my last post from the old work I did in '09 and from here on will be any work I'm doing now . It's a crop from a painting I did in oils, it was fun painting his face Referenced from my dad's photo.

Anyway, you have great pencil rendering skills, but digital could use a little bit more work - they seem somewhat flat to me.

But in anycase, keep trucking .

Rabbi Satan Thanks Rabbi Satan, it's great to finally be a member! I agree, I'm struggle quite a bit with rendering, I'm not sure what it is, but it may be because I don't understand colour, or perhaps I don't know my forms as well as I should. That and I struggle with lighting as well damn!

hmm... i did some more studies today. But mike shinonda ended up looking a little like a child.. *shakes head* but i do like the one top right! oh yeah, sorry it's a photo, my housemate has a scanner but she's fast asleep right now.

This is a drawing I did for my friend's Birthday. She loves Dante! (Who doesnt???) I usually have trouble putting the human figure in perspective when I'm drawing from imagination, but I found that The Vilppu drawing manual helped me quite a bit though the hands and arms are still quite difficult. So were the eyes..

I really love your style of pencil work! It's so nice and clean and defined. That third one with the girl and her weird skull has so much gorgeous detail. And the shading is fantastic, not overbearing, nice and clean.

Will definitely be keeping watch!

zepheenia: Hey thanks Zepheenia! I'm glad you like the line work and the shading! I'm happy you feel the shading is not overbearing, I've not looked at it in that way to be honest! I've always been to afraid of adding more shading incase I mess it up

Today's drawings... I wanted to explore my character a bit more. Hmm... too tired to design her mask and headphones at the moment. The mask is made of bones so I'm thinking of doing some drawings of skeletons and industrial masks soon *ponders*

Happy Chinese New Year! Woops, yesterday was the eve haha. *cough* My bad. And eh, happy valentines day. I guess :p.

Don't laugh! I know it's pretty bad, I did say i'd try and post every day, and this is one of the things I was working on today so..
It's a w.i.p of my character from imagination but I suppose I should have used some form of reference from the start. The eyes and the skin are not that difficult for me anymore, but I just can't get her mouth to look correct. *sigh*.

I think it's better to leave this one for now and do some more drawings

What a day. It's not even 7.00 and I'm tired!! It must be the damn weather. Anywayz, one of today's attempts. I just feel like going back to my characters lately :p. drawing faces from my imagination is still quite difficult! Oh and yeah! I can take the criticism! Really I need it! It's Souuuulllll ! I was advised to copy some artists I admire/like etc. I haven't imitated any particular artists for a long time, so I think it may be a good idea to get into the habit of copying an artist as often as I can! Does anyone have any advice/opinion on this please share!

And today, more sketches from screenshots of the Matrix! I still have trouble drawing heads. Damn u heads..! Maybe if I draw enough of them I'll finally be able to draw them more fluently and with less hesitation! Here's hoping.

interesting details on those characters! check the whole vilppu anathomy lessons(videos) if you didnt yet that helps a lot. i like your gesture practises too they look very smooth i'll be watching your sketchbook post more study and characters

Hey weashell, thanks, i dont actually have the villpu videos, but i did manage to make some photocopies of from his book, our tutor recommended him as well!

I was doing an artist study of Obata Takeshi (Death Note) because he draws awesome hair and eyes! And lips! it's a portrait of a character i created (Isaz) it took me way to long to finish, i usually have trouble aligning the eyes correctly and i will spend precious minutes fiddling with them!! chikusho...
