A little help if you please ....

Hey guys, I need a little help.

I seem to have the same trouble each time, and i dont know what i'm doing wrong or how to put it right. The image always seems to start right, however, when i come to tighten things up the colours always seem to mute and dull. Why? What am i doing wrong?

Any help would really be apreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

It looks fine to me. You're using grey fog and grey mountains, so naturally its going to look pretty greyed.

Look for some reference. Find some grassy hills or maybe some places in the tropics. Add some vegetation for color.

I find that I have a very difficult time using saturated colors. When you're looking at the color, isolated in a little box on your screen, it looks much more saturated than it would look next to other colors and in a whole composition.

In order to deal with this problem, I start out with a color reference photo. In your situation, I would look for a real landscape photo that has the color palette and mood that you want. Then sample colors directly from your color reference image and use those colors as a starting point. I find that the colors in my references are always darker and more saturated than I would have picked on my own.

Here's an example of something you could use for color reference:

You need to learn the properties of a color picker in photoshop. I suggest you get a gnomon workshop dvd on practical light and color to get the idea and develop an understanding of how to achieve that saturated light. You can also play with different layer properties to add more saturation, etc.
