Nice studies! Sounds like you enjoyed the intensive program at Studio Escalier, are you able to return each summer as more of a free-form program, or is there a progression of courses you take?

Hey thinairart -- I enjoyed it tremendously, and can't wait to go back! There is a progression within each year in terms of long poses: the summer intensive goes through many short poses and a few long ones at the end, but if you stay for the autumn intensive, the poses will all be long, which is probably more rewarding if you've had more advanced training to make the most of that time. I haven't been to any of their Paris courses. Otherwise it's pretty free-form for the 3-month intensives: the skill level that you display on your canvas or drawing pad will be critiqued accordingly. The times that I've gone there have been a wide range of skill levels in each group, and it's great to see how quickly everyone progresses.

I'm starting a new series of abstract oil paintings to explore the medium further. Technique-wise these tend to be much more successful than my realist work, which is a valuable thing to have learned, I think. I'm bringing them just up to the point of looking like creatures or fantasy environments or what have you, and then pulling back to see if it won't turn into something better This is also how I used to work in photoshop with a tablet, but I find using oil paints is a more organic approach. I am relying on everything I have learned studying realism to develop the form, color, lighting, atmosphere, edges, composition, gesture, brushwork, etc., in a loose, intuitive manner. This means that in my mind there are many safeguards in place, such as avoiding right angles, parallel lines, tangent lines, anything monotonous. A ton of artistic influences going on, too many to name haha. The canvas is also small enough that it is held in my left hand when I'm working on it, constantly being turned 360 degrees or sideways to make sure I can see what I'm doing and also to avoid repetitive brushstrokes.

oh man i really dig your works, the abstract feeling of the envirioment is just insane, the drawings, sill and figuratives are my favorites, im not quite feeling your portriature it seems like its painted by another person, with diffrent style, its just my feelign
ah i would get ino oil but but im scared as hell, plus i have too many questions bout it to just sit and start to paint

Malakuko - yeah the palette changes a lot depending on the subject matter. For example the glass orb painting used these colors a lot:

Titanium-Zinc White, Ivory Black, Pthalo Blue, Pthalo Green, Cad. Green Light, Cad. Green, Dioxazine Purple, Cad. Yellow Light, Perylene Red, Alizarin Crimson, Brilliant Pink
