I was a student at the drawing academy in Viborg Denmark under the russian instructor Artem Alexev.
Artem was a long time student of the great Boris Kazakov.
Boris was by many russians seen as an authority regarding renaissance draftsmanship. He graduated from the Repin, but chose to become a professor at the Mukhina institue, persuing a more structural less naturalistic renaissance approach. His system is very similar to that of Gottfried Bammes - the greatest german art teacher of the 20th century, and since Gottfried Bammes visited Skt. Petersburg it is quite likely that Boris and Gottfried became acquainted.
These studies are building on everything I was taught at the drawing academy.
The most important aspects are :
Strong perspective construction, light/shade from imagination, cross-hatch, atmospheric perspective, building in layers etc.
Gesture is a less, but still, important aspect.
I will be doing free online tutorials in this system -
