Murr -- Some New Stuff **11/7/12 UPDATE ON PAGE 3**

I think this might actually be my first post! I've tried to make an appearance from time to time and comment on others' work, but didn't really get the time to actually post my own stuff until now. See what you think and please critique!

"WTF! ~ Winged Teddies of Fury!", Photoshop

"T1M-MY and the Fish" , Acrylic on Illustration Board, 6x9

"Gardien #1 - Beauty of the Beast", Oil on Illustration Board, 12x18

"Gardien #2 - Path to the Pyre", Oil on Illustration Board, 12x18

    "The Robin Hood", Oil on Illustration Board, 15 1/2 x 23 1/2

"Catching Fireflies", Oil on Illustration Board, 10x15

    "Grey #1", Painter X

    Some concept stuff:

You can see all this stuff and more at my website or blog as well! Thanks guys!

I think all your links are broken or you forgot to host them on the site correctly. My browser says "Done" and there isn't anything.

Oh jeez. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Bullion. I apparently wasn't using the right links. Anyway, hope it's working for everyone now (I've tested it on other computers, so it should be). TAKE TWO!

    These are pretty sweet.

I'm actually liking the oils the best.
And I'm not saying that because I'm biased toward the medium, but the pieces seem to be holding my attention longer.

I think they could use a little more refinement here and there, but nothing major.
(ie. soften some background edges, add more details to the hair, etc)

I particularly like the composition on the second 'Gardien'. Really nice!

Thanks Dan! I look to your website pretty frequently for inspiration, so I really appreciate your comments. Seeing your stuff at IlluXCon this year was very cool, too. Yeah, oils have definitely become my medium of choice over past year, though I think I'm still struggling a little bit with how to properly use them.

Could I ask which pieces in particular you think the backgrounds could use some softening on?

Lovely paintjobs! Like DS, I'm drawn to the oils and the character work is great. I like the movement and story you've captured especially. Good stuff.

    Yeah, good job!
I really appreciate the oil paintings (I do like traditional medium)
And the humoristic touch is really fun!

yea man. great stuff. i agree with dan about the minor refinement but i think the digital pieces are really strong. especially the teddy bear one. the pieces towards the bottm of the post dont seem to be as strong as the ones near the top.

Thanks guys. I'm in agreement with everyone in that I think the oil paintings are the strongest too - I think probably because I spent much more time in the planning stages for them. I'll have to do some touch-ups and update some time in the near future! Thanks again for commenting everyone!

    *UPDATE 2/15/2010*

Just finished this piece to submit for Exposé 8. Not sure what its chances are of getting in, but it was fun to do anyway. It was based on one of the previous EOWs here, but there was no way I was going to finish it in time for the closing of that thread. But ya gotta love all the fun ideas that come out of this place!

Thanks for sharing. I especially like the piece with the carriage going through the forest. Lots of energy with great coloring and texturing. I think many of your other pieces would benefit by some roughing up as well. Even subtle texturing can help to get rid of that overly smooth and plastic look. At the very least it can help to add a bit of noise with the "add noise" filter in PS after you finish the painting.

    keep up the good work!

    *Update: 2/18/2010*

Hey thanks for commenting Traveler. Maybe I'll start exploring texture more in my next piece. It's always been something I've been a little afraid of I guess.

@ Trevor: Hey thanks, man. I appreciate it. I checked out your portfolio link and left a comment, but wasn't sure if comments were appropriate in that section of the forum, so I quickly deleted it. But long story short, your work is looking nice!

Thanks David and Katzx. Oddly enough, the biggest inspiration for the care bears piece came from the model who posed for it. It just seemed to me to be the most accurate way to describe his personality.

And now, some new concept stuff I've been doodling. I've been trying to find a method of working in Photoshop again that doesn't involve me hating life. Feeling better about it though:

Love it, great stuff, your wagon in the woods is a scene right out of a book I just wrote, 79 chapters, called the Puppet Makers Apprentice. Surprised me.

Great looking stuff. I must say I rather enjoy the interior cowboy bar. The two armed gorillas remind me of a similar piece I did a few years back but instead of the second set being another pair of arms they were a pair of spiked mallet type things. Anyways cool stuff do more!
