Wondering the same thing..... it said that the date was the 11th, but then again it was supposed to be officially announced on the 9th and then two weeks before that and two weeks before that and two weeks before that....and so on....
...in other words I now, would not be surprised if it wasn't officially announced for another two weeks or so...hoping I am wrong = /

I'm hoping my balls off that I can get a spot.
Want to see someone become a master? (My Sketchbook)
Thanks for the update Jason - Really looking forward to the details. I know it's a massive undertaking and you guys are doing a great job. Thanks again.
p.s. Craz...don't hope your balls off...you might want those later. ;o)
whats the schedule of the classes like cause that will determine a lot for me
Will this program be offered another time after these 5 weeks? Currently in final year of college, wont have time for the January course![]()
Out of curiousity, how long are the weekly classes going to run? Is it feasible for someone who works full time to attend? The reason I liked the streaming classes was that I could still learn at my own pace. Is this crash course a weeklong endeavor?
This is going to be amazing!!! I dare say Revolutionary. Thank you for putting such a great opportunity together.
One small question: Are the on-demand classes going to have a limited number of spots? I am going to have to round up some cash and I do not want to miss out on this opportunity.
You guys are just awesome!!! So incredible...!!!
Little question:
If someone attends the full 5 weeks, will there be any little kind of "diploma" or a reference writing from you guys handed out??? I hope that you get what mean..
Like the masters degree when you finish the studies... something like a CA Degree after the five weeks
Thank you for any response and if you still dont get what I mean, please tell...
Regards
JD

I am so thrilled about Discovery. I have been hooked on the idea of TAD since I first read about it. I have so many questions, but I'll wait 'til more is said/more of the site goes up. Just wanted to give a shout out to the bodies behind TAD and say you guys have my support.
As we wait for the site to launch and the release to then go out I thought I could post some information about the school and programs that are upcoming. The five week "Discovery" will demonstrate what this is all about. The Discovery online event is for everyone. It is not just for the students interested in the school. It is geared to help artists on many career paths better their skills and understanding of art. Those attending Discovery will have a leg up on their art education no matter where they plan to study, or work.
Here is some additional information about the school itself.
The Art Department is a career driven art school, designed by industry leading artists to train students to manage the reality of being successful in today’s creative world. It is a program deeply rooted in historical foundations, and one open to theory and ideas from all artistic paths. The Art Department provides the well-rounded foundation and tools for students to succeed. When it comes down to it, every art student has one thing on common, and that is the question “How do I get my art and life where I want it to be?” The professionals who have answered this question for themselves and demonstrated the highest levels of success are those guiding the students to reach their goals.
At the Art Department, artists have the ability to become established, successful, and famous by getting the information they need to create a portfolio of professional work. The school faculty is connected, through the Illustration Academy, the ConceptArt.Org community, and Massive Black to the largest pool of entertainment developers, toy makers, book and comic publishers, international print publications, multi-media distribution channels, video game publishers, game developers, social media creators, film studios, visual effects houses, and leading fine art galleries anywhere. The days of being lucky to be exposed to 20 or 30 companies during art school are of the past. The Art Department is uniquely designed for helping students, who earn their stripes along the way, to use all tools they need here to directly reach the world of art.
It is The Art Department’s goal to provide the place where the next generation of artists can learn both online and in-person, from some of the most successful professionals in the industry. Options in the The Art Department exist to learn exclusively over the internet, online and in immersive workshops, or in person in four major U.S. cities (San Francisco CA, Austin TX, Kansas City MO, and Richmond VA). The curriculum is strict, but fluid. The lessons are adapted to the individual’s needs and goals, and his or her level advances according to the skills mastered.
In The Art Department, there are no degrees, nor pass or fail. Students are here to learn along with their instructors, and while the atmosphere is amicable and personal, it is disciplined as well. The students will be evaluated and their instruction begun accordingly. The program runs between 15 and 30 months depending on whether a student is awarded advanced placement. Ultimately, it depends on where each student is with their art knowledge and how quickly they progress. Advanced placement can be achieved by demonstrating that the student understands the necessary content through their portfolio.
Zero and low interest student loans are available to those who qualify and early tuition discounts are there for those who are ready. Two million dollars in scholarships are available to be awarded to the top students who apply and to those with severe financial need and talent to match. At The Art Department, the portfolio means everything. If you are an artist interested in career success or a parent seeking to find the right education for your son or daughter, this unique program is an informative, inspiring, and industry connected launch pad helping students to reach the biggest dreams.
more to come....

Cheers for the update Jason,
I think I'm with alot of people in watching this thread like a hawk for the sign up for TAD Discovery to be opened. I had a quick question about TAD as a whole though, and sorry if it's been answered before elsewhere, but I'd very interested in attending the school in person in any one of the cities listed (I'd lean towards Austin myself, but all sound great) Being Irish though I'd have visa issues. I know that's the point of the online option but I really would like to invest in a change of scenery along with my college training to expand my horizons a bit. I was wondering if there is any chance of help with visas for people in my situation? I realise it's probably unlikely, but I'd love a confirmation anyway.
cheers in advance, hoping to see all you guys at TAD discovery, looks like it'll be pretty mindblowing
When artists choose an art school there are a few things that are important. First and foremost is the budget. Can it be afforded? Second, do the teachers there know how to do what they are teaching and is it what you want to learn? Third, what are the credentials of their faculty's previous students? And finally, what does the student work they have look like over the past few years?
1. We have gone over costs and financial plans showing affordability and have two million in scholarships and tuition assistance. Here is the link to the financial question's answer and poll: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=172141
2. The second question is answered by the list below and the instructor work which will be showcased on the site. Portfolios must stand on their own, even your teachers.
3. The student work will be shown on the site. You can find quite a lot of it here on CA too, on the MB/CA side. The Illustration Academy? Well for now you can check out the work of Sterling Hundley, one of our faculty. You can look at my own and my progress too. We are both students of that program.
4. We will have a showcase on the site for this along with past student work, as well as a good number of testimonials, student client lists, and information as examples.

Anything that MB/CA touches is gold in my mind. I've looked at most of what are considered the top tier art schools out there, and attended and/or took classes at a couple. Most, if not all are crazy expensive, a very small fraction have teachers that actually work in the industry at high-end companies, and a surprising amount of student portfolios are like...WTF!?...you spent that much $$ and that's what your portfolio looks like!? Granted, you get out what you put in.
A huge selling point for me when looking at schools is if the teachers/instructors are professionals currently working in the industry.
Btw, the client list has several double and triple listings, but it's still friggin huge!

Ok firstly WOW ... I love you! ... secondly... I dont have a portfolio at all but I would like to make one and I am very confident in my skills ... will the Discovery 5 week program help me make a portfolio?
Hello,
i read the entire thread and there is some information i need first before making my decision about attending the 5 weeks program.
I saw that each week covers a specific part of art education, but what I am interested in are the courses. I suppose that each day there will be another course(or maybe i m wrong here?). I need a little more information before deciding to attend, since there may be classes that are too advanced for my current skill level.

Yeah, I too am curious about some more info; which I guess we'll wait for the update Manley mentioned? Just interested in knowing how the 5 weeks are broken up; is there one class a day or week? How long is a class? Is it live stream or on demand? Are there assignements?
Basically, I'd like to know if this is a something I can do part time or if its expected to be full time.
Relax folks. I'm sure a ton more info will be released before sign ups.
Discovery is being taught by a select group of The Art Department faculty. We will announce the times, full instructor list and final portfolio review groups soon. For now here is some info to whet the appetite. Purchased! Thank you for the opportunity! Looking forward to getting started.
This is great, the price is great! But unfortunately for me I won't be able to participate because I have no time!!! Is there a time table for these so I can see if I can at least participate on some days?
