I really like the angle of the composition on #993. Really cinematic. Hope you finish it. I was just curious if you use reference for your figures at all? Your proportions look pretty good.

Istmin52 hey hey, no most of the time I dont use any refrences for the poses , which honestly does show through most of the time as they are rather "basic" and sometimes even stiff looking ^^ thanks for droping by !

and here is this weeks dump of figure drawing (started out on thursday so not as much this week ^^ will be more the next, I promise), mostly 1-3 min per figure, if not stated otherwise in the pic (the one being greyish/ocre is aprox 20-30 min per figure).

this has been one hell of a week =..= ...nothing ...I mean N O T H I N G worked out this week, one of those weeks were everything you start just immediately turns you off and you are close to punching a hole right through your screen.

this is the first thing that not totally sucked this week .....

It's been a while since I dropped by here! I'm really liking the progress of the latest piece. Has a nice solid feel to it. The giant stands strong, the warriors charge on with hightened morale due to his presence and an ominous orange blaze illuminates the evening scene, telling of the battle to come.

I like the contrast of the brighter sky together with details in the giants armor against the dark silhouettes of his legs and the figures at the bottom. Keep working on the atmosphere and depth of the picture and the silhouettes will stand out even more. I'd keep that contrast. I think it would look really awesome. And if you were to paint more character and details down there, I would paint dark against light, keeping it simple with silhouettes and just a hint of light to bring out the volume of the figures, and maybe adding figures with atmospheric depth in the orange mid-ground. (Hope you understand what I mean). Looking forward to see where you bring it

and regarding 'cool as hell' .. actually. Hell is cool

    Heya...

I love this last image... It has a great mood, though I think the values and colors were best at the beginning.

The image doesn't suck me in as it did before, the tiny strokes in the background kind of flattened it out a bit. Somehow the armor seems a bit more plastic like. I still love the image and it's dirty%dark kind of colorscheme.

So if you are going to on detailing the armor, and having those fiery catapult bawlz, I suggest you make some studies on stuff the likes of flames and metal, since if you get those correct, man, stunning piece!

post #1007 clicks nicely for me anyway, especially the version with the more rugged and simple armor

Awesome, this work came out great!!!!!!! Well there is no need to tell about how much you have improved, what i want to say is that i already feel a special personal quality in your works. Maybe its the pallete and the value range but if you keep this up and keep improving the fundamentals , i am gonna recognize you from afar, thats great !!!!
Keep up the great work !!

The1CalledTess thanks man, glad you like the steps ^^ thats why I post them so people can see where I started from and what changed during the process.

wutangclam actually no, all I do is simply try to get as many things right as I can in every painting , by doing so I have to deal with refs and the training along the way and doing so everytime for me seems to be the most effective method. Just try to push every picture as far as you possibly can related to your current level of abbility. the other thing is just try to transition from thinking to knowing ... I know that a lot of people draw pictures in a manner of checking of point from a list ( this approach has its own advantages and disatvantages) as for me I just want to feel if something is right or not its like learning a language first you have to think about every little word and sentence later on it just comes naturally. Thats the same you should try to achieve with your painting habits in my humble opinion.

Lakka hey man thanks for the input ^^ much appreciated. hope you are ok with the result now^^

kingkostas thanks man! yeah I hope so , I am not actively looking for a style, actually I do tried to avoid this but well what can you do. All I can say is that it is not intentional as I try to keep my mind open, to not get stuck with bad habbits when trying to achieve a certain look. Thanks for your support man !

Odayga hey hey ^^ I use only photoshop, thanks for dropping by !

    enjoy

ok so this time I had a reason for not droping by for so long my mother passed away at the age of 51 after 13 years of severe illness and that got me a little down so that I avoided pretty much anything the last month, but I am getting back on track.

here is a little something I am working on ATM, still WIP of course ^^

Wow, I haven't looked in here for a long time, I regret that now! Awesome work, you really developed a clean rendering style, specially in the upper part of the giants siege picture! I love the armour of that wizard-knight-whatever, although I feel, the big-downward-spiked antlers (I hope you know what I mean) make it hard for him to turn his head, as if they'd easily collide with his shoulderpads when he looks left or right!

Love the effect on the sword!
