Man, those last few environment studies on the previous page are looking increasingly awesome. Lovely colours.

Some of your head studies still have a bit of a case of longface. When you divide a head into thirds, the distance from nose to chin is the same as the distance from nose to browline. (And browline to hairline) You're sticking the eyes too high, where the brows should go, which elongates the nose and throws the head shape out of whack. Lower the brows/eyes to the line where the eyes are now, and you're good to go. Some are better than others, but it's really noticeable here:

thanks for the feedback Revidescent! alot! man... i just dont know why i cant grasp the understanding of faces... its like my eyes think it all looks squished when i try to force the right proportions and there is something my mind just dont want or cant understand...its frustrating...

shiNIN: always a pleasure to see you around! thanks

so i did the stupid thing of throwing it all away that i done the last few days, i cant get the proportions of the face right, its something i do wrong and i cant understand what

only thing i got to show right now, so much for daily updates x), tried to do portraits of my characters using reference.. ugh, crap!

trying to do some loomis basic atm... not going well... lala...

My last visit was definitely too long ago. So much stuff happened here! I wouldn't have thought that you start practicing real faces, but it's great. If your studies went well I'm sure even your comic faces will have some more delicate details.
Try to keep an eye on the top and backs of your heads. They're sometimes missing the right proportions. And study where the ear is placed.
I know from my own experience and never ending odyssee how cruel real heads can be to paint. So just keep it up and have fun and don't be discouraged if it takes its time.

There are two things bothering me looking at both portraits. The mouth is a bit too low and the jawline is unrealistic... You have a very straight and too steep line instead what people have. Especially the girl's jaw should be softer.

Hey great updates. I understand your frustration, i think you can greatly benefit from simplifying the forms and making underlying anatomy first and then detailing it. For example you can make a box for a face then make a sphere inside the box with perspective in mind. Draw the simplified skeleton first on top of it and then go about detailing it with simple form.

And in case you have not seen this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWLS3fki6oM Please do so. His techniques are nice.

What a handsome skull!!! I mean the left one

The last face... I have some problems with it. The nose is turning to our right, much more than the head itself. The nose and the eyes seem too big, it's almost as viewed from too close but the mouth is normal sized. Keep doing these faces

    Your usual stylized stuff is lovable as always. {I personally find your figures more useful and inspiring for me than the popular books and I hope using both kind will help me. When hotness is over and my brain will start functioning again...}

shiNIN: thanks again! lot appreciated... and haha that face, its an embarrasing selfportrait x) i do have a crooked nose, and it was really hard to get it right, i practically gave up on that one, will give a new try on a selfportrait soon >< and mouths... man they are impossible to do!

here is some other headstudies, more or less after michael hampton. so far i feel most comfortable with his methods than the other guys...
it felt good today until i took a crappy photo of it and saw it on the computer, and saw how bad it was, still no improvement, another day tomorrow

    Tjenare.

I thought I recognised your stuff from an earlier visit but I guess I never left a comment.
You have a very pleasent style and I'm starting to see how the line between that and the realistic stuff is starting to blurr a bit. Keep up the good work.

I got motivation but I still draw much less than you... It's hard to get active, motivation or not.

Yay portraits I always wanted to do such ones... I can't compare them to your older ones as my brain and especially my bad enough memory is in a melted in the hotness here but I like them a lot. The ones that are tilted forward are definitely weaker, well that angle is much harder to draw.

And I have a question... I face this tough situation again I copied some of your figures and they look too good and I'd wish to put them into my SB but... but... they are good because I copied yours and I always feel bad about it. But I can put copied stuff from books so maybe it's okay, I wrote "all hail to rumpenstiltzkin" on the paper SB page and stuff... So, may I put them into my SB? Tell me your price. Once in a somewhat similar situation (but in Tegaki E) I wrote a lame haiku and drew a thankyou pic

Hi! Diggin' the latest updates...as always it's good to see all the various characters and studies.

Love the foreshortening and energy in this one!
