    Southern Bell's first sketchbook

    Hi,
I'm totally new to the forum. I'm 20 yrs. old, I'm from Arkansas (USA) and I currently attend The Florence Academy of Art. ( 1.5 yrs. in Florence Italy, and I've just started in Gothenburg Sweden.)
this post is just gonna be a quick, general, mixture of what I've been doing this past year.

    Hey here's more!

Hey thank you for the really nice comments!
sorry it took so long for my to post anything. School keeps me really busy, and now I'm on break for two weeks, hopefully I'll be better at posting, I'm just going to place this one post as a back track of most of the school work I've done at the Florence Academy, I'll post more updated work later!
    Thanks again

Pencilator- thanks! but the sad kettles will never see the light of day. or at least this forum.

DefiledVisions- Unfortunately the Elephant was from a picture , But I'm planning on going back there to sketch the real thing some time soon(ish) !

Soros- Thanks! The Bargues' towards the start of the tread took from 3 weeks - 2 months. the cast drawing took 6.5 weeks. and the male nude drawing took 5 weeks.
the sketches range from 20 mins to up to 4-5 hours.

    Hey!

The first image at the top was from a wonderful game of "polish the turd" at the Sketch-meet in Gothenburg. I was told at one point the zombie dog, was a sandwich?

after that an array of pages from my current sketch book. Most if not all of the animals are from the lovely selection of taxidermy animals at the natural historical museum, here in Gothenburg!

After that are some figured drawings.
I regret the lighting bolt because it doesn't make any seine with the lighting.

And next up you will see what locals will call "an Unfinished cast drawing". That is still in the process, but close to being done!

Last is my First time painting with color, since I started the academy!

and yes I am afraid of dark values!

Pencilator and Ellen brought in some skulls to paint.

Later on I did a memory drawing of the fox skull... and then some.

Monkeys! I mean Lol-keys! and yeah that elephant was huuuge!

hehe yes, that so called zombie dog was in fact a brilliant combination of mustard, melt cheese, sallad, onions, genetics and madness... poor sandwich

Your work is really good, still your lines are more careful in your studies than in your personal work. Is this because you spend more time on the studies? They seem to be arched, going in a bend (makes sense? ) as opposed to the straight hatching in your sketches.
I would like to see some of that flowing linework in your imaginary sketches!

    take care!

    Oh an update, cool.
    Nice fox skull.

Good point by defiled, straight lines are for simplification and breaking something down. In your imagination your the boss, nothing to simplify, other than for the viewer. So big straight lines easy to move doesn't fill the purpouse they do in lifedrawing.
Just go with for the gut feeling.

I also know how hard it is to have two ways of drawing, and it takes a while for them to start working together. More sketch evenings and we'll cure that.

awesome work, really love those figure sketches

do you usually start with a gesture or do you try to be as accurate as possible?

I try to start with proportion and body type, after that i find it easier to just tick the gesture into place. I think (at least for now) that going from accurate to gesture is easier the starting of the other way around, at least for longer poses.

    Dusting off the Cobwebs

I need to be more on top of things, at least with updating this Anyways.

Alot has happened since I last updated, and I've done alot of work. However right now, due to lack of time, I'll just post my first still life project I've done at school.
    (sorry if the dusty photo)

    Sweet nothings in your hear

I've been promising that I will be posting more work more regularly.

So now (about a year later) I have internet at my current apartment and no excuses!

I've been starting my last term at the FAA, still up in Sweden. Here are just a few studies. I'll post projects that I've been spent/spending more time on, on Monday.

(My apologies for the blur/poor quality photos.)

Almost all of these are short term projects, lasting from 1-3 hours. I have only one longer term project in here (I think it is the 2nd one), a charcoal portrait of a woman, who is wear a hat, that is a transfer drawing, and that took 9 hours total. The last two, are sketches for what I hope will be a painting soon.

Very very Excited! After working what felt like 20 minutes (but was actually 6 months ) on my application to The Art Department. I submitted and was soon after accepted! I'm working on getting officially enrolled in the school for classes, and also for the the KCMO POD! I'm really excited for what is coming next! I can't wait for this next (totally awesome) step!

Anyways Some of these I have posted before but I wanted to show what I applied with
