Character: The Suffering and the Regret

    Hello,
Here is an image I did in Painter primarily with a little Photoshop. The original image is 4700x6600, approximately. C&C is more than welcome!

P.S. I made a few contrast changes as well as some cloud refinements where I thought they were needed the most. Thanks again guys!

    Nicko

Very nice work..The clouds look phenomenal.

One suggestion : Clean up some of the rings at the bottom....lol it just seems to me that the whole piece is rendered so well..and then theres that one ring on the bottom that..isnt.

Yah haha...alright, well, keep up the good work

the clouds are really nice...my only suggestion is to further develop the values in the characters.

Holy Bejesus this is nice! You did great on the clouds and the lighting. Two things though:

    1. The clouds that are directly overlapping the character (Which I'm assuming is Lucifer) and the clouds that are at the point where the painting goes dark don't look like they fit into the painting. They look too smudged and muddy. The other clouds show extreme definition and value and look FUGGIN AWESOME!! I'd say try to define those other clouds a little more.

    2. This is nothin big and would be a big change if you decided to do it, but the the monster version of the character has a screaming look on his face and his hands are down at his sides doin nothin. His hands are, not to offend, but boring. I have no proportion or anatomy issues with them, but they just seem too plain. The human version is awesome cause you can see pain, agony, and confusion all in that one pose. I'd suggest to change the hand position of the monster or change his face to make it fit more of his slouched position or maybe tugging at the chains.

I'm sorry if I come off too blunt, but when I put up a picture I always want the most honest critique I can get and so in turn I give other people my most honest critique. I usually only critique on stuff I like and your style kicks ass man. This pic is awesome. Keep up the good work!

Hey thanks for the C&C guys. Please keep them coming!

Dabehu, i think your points are dead on. I need to refine those clouds and give some angst to his hands but I simply ran out of time for the whole Expose submission thing. I'll certainly be tweaking this stuff later tonight !

Ahh good point! The story is basically two fallen angels who have been fused into a monster and cast out of heaven. I tried to show their former angelic selves as well as the monsters they are becoming. I have one idea to convey this more clearly. I'll take a shot at it tonight.

Thanks again guys, any additional c&C is more than welcome!

I have to say that I am very intregued by your subject. The whole concept of Falling just seems like one that is rich with imagery and metaphor. I think you have handled this image with a very sensitive take on what can be a very dark, fire and blood tinged topic. Kudos for that. I enjoy the large figure very much. The warmth in the atmosphere is nice too. Perhaps if you warm the light hitting the characters to meet the warmth in the atmosphere, the purples and blues that would come into the shadows will help define and differentiate the clouds a little more too, as someone else has mentioned. Thanks for posting, I look forward to seeing what you make next!

Really cool and vibrant piece. I think some of the depth is ruined abit by not having consistant detail in the cloud according the distance to the camera. Think of distance and where to put detail.

Extreme closeup : little detail and low contrast
middle distance: high detail and high contrast
and then less detail and less contrast the further away from the camera.

I also spot some odd shifts in style in the clouds from soft and photorealistic in the upper right corner to the very stylish and sharp clouds in the lower left middle. might be a good idea to balance style abit more to get a more harmonic overall feel.

    just a few thoughts...

    impressive piece!

Wally, Artnicko already stated the image resoulution. The dpi is really irrelevant if you have the actual printsize or pixelsize.

First this is awesome. The main thing that bothers me is how the angel seems to be bald and has his hands underneath a wig on his head.

as everyone said, very nice. the only beef I have with your image is the mirroring/clone stamp/rotation of some of your clouds. it's good for generic cloud fields but be carefull not to clone some parts that stand out and that can be recognised.
The other minor things I spoted was the perspective of the demonic part of the angels' head. That chain around his neck doesn't cast any shadow ?
You might also check some feather reference. They have a very peculiar and organised structure. You should be able to differenciate a white feather from a pine branch at first glance
    Anyhow, just a cc.

again, very interesting ! looking forward to see more of your work.
