Some enviro thumbnails. I found a new brush that I really liked for this one. It has a very painterly quality to it.

OMG these environments look awesome! My favourite is the last two in the middle colume, and also the last one on 1st column. The composition is so nice. What's the new brush called? Do you use reference for these?

Cabbage Caterpiller: thanks for dropping in again. I'm sorry, I don't know the name of the brush...it just came in a random pack that I found floating around on my computer. The zip file doesn't have any distinguishing title. And no, I did not use any reference for this. I was basically just throwing down values until shapes formed, and then I sort of directed the composition to a point where I felt it worked.

Anthonycarey: thanks for stopping by. And thanks for your kind words I thoroughly enjoyed your SB as well.

    CC: thanks again

Some sketch stuff. Some of the heads felt "okay", but overall all my faces feel long and bizarre looking. I need to return to some reference for some more guidance. I am definitely getting the hang of the more creative perspective stuff now, so that feels pretty good.

Hey you have some great work here. May I ask, how did you attach you N52 to the cintiq?

Whirly: thanks. I am using industrial strength Velcro Before you ask if it would damage the Cintiq (which is a completely valid question, and one I should have thought about before hand, hahaha....), it does not. I had a power supply failure problem with this Cintiq, so I had to return it to Wacom, and therefore had to remove the velcro just so it didn't void the warranty, and with a little elbow grease I was able to restore the area to it's original state.

    Hey,

There's some great stuff in here. I really like the Vanderpoel studies a few pages back, and the enviro thumbs on this page are awesome.

Some sketchbook stuff. Also, a Feng Zhu study of some asian architecture and mountains. I learned a lot about navigating Photoshop, and about good workflow techniques from watching his videos. It's not finished yet; I plan on adding in some photo textures to help polish it off. Overall I think it's turning out pretty well.

I'm calling this one done. Asian Mountain Temple. 20 hours from sketch to "completion". I did a better job on this one keeping my layers under control; I think it really paid off in the end as I was able to create a better sense of depth than I did in my older pieces.

I went to my first figure drawing session here in Seattle! It was exciting and extremely enjoyable. I learned more in 3 hours drawing the figure from life than I have in all the time I've sat in front of my computer staring at Posemaniacs. The model was wonderful as well; really good poses and held them quite well. AND, it only cost $5 I've got another planned for next Thursday as well. I am making it a point to attend at least 2 of these a week. I figure it will cost me around $80 a month, but dammit, it's well worth it.

Anyways, here's some of the better excerpts from today's session.
