So I missed the cutoff by *that much*. I literally closed photoshop 2 minutes ago. Damn you, lazy habits and your affinity for morning sessions of World of Warcraft! DAMN YOU! That's what I get for not reading the fine print or finishing things when I'm done with them .

Nice work folks. I'll be happy to vote in the polls.

Um, I thought I'd made the cutoff time but don't see mine in the poll? Not a big deal if it's too late to be fixed, it was fun participating!

Thank you!!! It was ok to keep me out though, late is late! Thank you Posh and Deastwen, and those who voted for me! < 3

I voted for Entdroid : Loved your take on the topic, and I love the idea behind this entry so far! It's lovely and full of personality
and Megadubitably : Beautiful picture and strong composition, it would make a great cover I love how you kept all the colors muted except on the egg, which is the main point of your image.

My main crit for a lot of the entries, despite some great pictures, is that it couldn't really make it for young edition. Some are really dark and too "adult" in the design of the character(s) and/or the execution.
Also i liked some of you made the title for their cover, though some of the types look quite "oldschool" and it doenst help the picture that much i think.

But overall it's a nice round, it changes to see younger chacacters and targets, and i like it!

That sucks! The only thing that I can think of why I got cut off is maybe 'cos of file name. But I changed it and re post my submission as soon as I read Posh's warning. And I did all my WIPS and I attached everything.

Excellent round, everyone, I voted for quite a few. However, I do have to address the "young adult" issue as well - IMO, a young adult is a person between 15 and (let`s say) 19 years of age, and we all know what guys and girls are like at that age? Right? Which is why I did the complete opposite of Clochette - I voted for the "darker" ones. So many people, so many interpretations, so many opinions...

    Can it get any better.
For the people who didn't make the pole, it's frustrating but next time you prob will post it the right way. Personally I used two, almost three rounds to get it right.
Because there were too many great entries I restricted myself only to vote for the very best.
Adam Hunter Peck: TOP, superb image, the colors are so vibrant and yet it's all so clear, great storytelling.
Entdroid: fantastic stylished and humourous, I love it.
Venger: more a women then a girl, but great atmosphere.
    Clochette: just sweet.

As said, there were so many great entries, Lancer Moo, Blau, Kelly Kranz, Freddy Scribbles, but I could go on.

Sometimes it's that perfect little pick me up especially when you're sitting there going "It sucks, it sucks it sucks" (translation...this didn't quite work out the way I expected)

Greaat round as always. What an awesome variety of interpretations.

Ah, unfortunately I didn't nail down my ideas in time this week, but I'm definitely going to do a piece for this later, I think.

Here's some comments to go with my votes:

Adam Hunter Peck I love love love this! Absolutely beautiful colors and you've given a really nice sense of environment. Lovely work. I could totally see this on an actual book cover.

LancerMoo- I love the arctic environment and I think you've done a really nice job on lighting and details of the costume.

EntDroid The stylization here is really great, and I like the color palette, too. It's nice to see a little more modern take on the idea.

Another round of great entries, tough to chose so I gave out a few votes for my favourite overall pieces.

The ones I felt met the book cover part of the design brief most appropriately are:

Pxel Slayer: One of my favourite pieces of the round. I love the design and composition, it’s very well done and the most significant elements are highlighted well due to the lighting and your use of colour. I like how you’ve also incorporated additional characters and also the sparkly bits . Fitting text too which suits the piece well. Great work! (VOTE)

Entdroid: My second favourite. I really love the style of all your work, it’s always bright and fun. Interesting scene and a great eye catching book cover design. I love the girl character and the funky accessoried egg. I also like how you’ve given the topic a typical ‘everday’ teenage set-up . (VOTE)

Seaport: I really love the dragon and egg in yours. The bright blues stand out and work surprisingly well, I also like the expression and pose of the girl and how the dragon connects the girl and egg together. I also think the text is well incorporated to suit the design. Nice work! (VOTE)

Venger: Another great fantasy book cover. I really like the use of the strong gold colour, it’s eye-catching and compliments the cool blue of the egg. I think you’ve used colour well with an interesting scene and good perspective. I also like the dragon emblem and corner borders. (VOTE)

    -------

Other pieces I really liked are:

Adam Schumpert: Love the sci-fi take on the theme and well illustrated too, with a range of interesting characters nicely arranged. I’d definitely be interested in reading a book with that cover. (VOTE)

Gerezon: I really like the painting style and colours of yours. I also really like the scene as a whole with the girl character reading to her egg, it’s really cute. I think you’ve posed her well too. I also think you’ve done a really good job with the surrounding environment. Lovely work! (VOTE)

CKLamb: Simple yet effective. I like the composition of it and the colours. It’s compact and I really like how the background and surround is an egg shape. I think it needs some further detail though and maybe some stronger edges in areas to enhance it further.

Tommoy: I like the movement captured in yours and how the girl stands out boldly from the scene due to your use of colour and detail. It work’s well. I like the mother dragon too.

Megadubitably: Nice design, I like how the egg and girl stand out more due to the use of warm colours on the cooler ones of the background. I think the piece could do with some further work on the background and maybe some additional refining/detailing.

    ------------------

    Some additional comments:

LancerMoo: Nice colours. I really like the detail and lighting of the egg and the wolf is also potrayed well. I think the lighting draws your attention to the egg and the wolf rather than the girl character though.

Kingkostas: Love the colours and the baby dragon is so cute. I feel it needs further detail added though which I think will give you a really striking piece of work.

DoomBee: I really like the style of yours, it’s quirky. The character reminds me too much of red riding hood though. Aside from that, nice piece!

Kelly Krantz: Nice perspective and scene on yours. What really deterred me from it though was the thick blue border you have surrounding the image, I think if you remove this or at least make it slimmer and change the colour to black the piece will be a lot more appealing.

Jager: Really liked yours. Shame it didn’t make the poll!

Orcatraz: Yours would make a good cover for a fantasy book. Great detail and scene. Not too sure about the font used though.
