    Rockwell's Reference Photos! Link!

Check it out, guys. Great quality references that Rockwell used. This should give us an idea of how to use refs effectively.

There's even a book about it too:

Indeed! Some of the responses in the first link are just plain daft! But great find, thank you! Although he may have used his neighbours and friends (as it says), they were damn fine actors as well!

holy crap, I had no idea he went so far as staging scenes for his refs (the marriage counselor one for example). Really cool photos, and it's always great to see a little further into the process

Those are some beautiful photos and paintings,

but there was one eyeroll moment
in the npr slide show one of the labels said "Although rockwell's use of photographs may discredit him in some eyes, it's hard to deny the breadth of rockwell's aesthetic influence." discredit him in the eyes of children maybe?

That was an amazing read, thanks so much for sharing! Rockwell's a big favourite of mine, so this was especially insightful I knew he used ref, but this is definitely taking it all the way!

Borrowed my teacher's huge book on Rockwell one time. Not a bad photographers

I was just thinking of making a thread about using photos for reference, after stumbling on this blog article showing Images that Old master artists have used. Hope its fine if I post it here.

I didnt know there even was an argument like that, but this article is a great reference guide itself showing photos were used by artists maybe since the medium was invented.
