Some creative stuff in here, keep up the real life studies it'll pay off in the end, I've noticed that your lines and colours are more subtle when you use traditional media as opposed to your highly saturated digital work, which I gotta say is a bit harsh on the eyes (sorry!) I've made many mistakes like that though, I think it's too easy with digital to forget all you've learnt about making marks because it's so easy to press undo (and it's not as easy as traditional)
I really like #11 and the Autumn forest scene you have good lines in those and nice use of colour. (of course my crit is partly personal taste and it's clear your developing a very interesting style! Be interesting to see where you take it! keep up the good work!)
Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook! Looks like you have been putting in a lot of work here.
I think that the brush your using with the opacity turned way down ( or on pen pressure) is what is holding you back a bit here.
To remedy this, here is what I would suggest you do:
1. Forget color for a little while. Get good at building up values in greyscale.
2. Try to go as long as you can in your paintings without turning the opacity down on any of your brushes or using the pen pressure opacity thing.
3. Once you have all of your flat fills in place, then go back with the pen pressure opacity for blending. Then if you want to smooth things out, reduce the hardness of the brush as the last step.
Once you can create gray scale paintings, coloring them is not that hard. I start out with gray scale and add color after the fact.
I hope this helps! Feel free to disregard this if you wish.
i think that before color, and even before value studies, you should do gesture studies, if you study in an organized and disciplined way results will show faster
Hey poetry man, where's the updates bro??
Hey all! I was going to scrap this sketchbook. But I think I will continue it.
Wish you all the best!

Sorry y'all. A lot of these are not really new. I had a massive folder from this summer of all the art I wanted to post here. I never got around to it. But here's all the development I did over the summer. I think one is actually from last year, lol. Hope you enjoy! I'll try and update with new stuff soon. I'm just so busy these days with schoolwork. I've got to clear out that folder, so next few posts will be also old summer stuff.
Thanks. Peace.
[I edited the images- I think they show now hehe]

Hey bro
Mmm, some good pieces in here.. your colour choices though, I'm not sure in some cases, they feel a bit garish at times, which I don't mind, it's kind of cool to see where you go. I would maybe advise looking at life a bit for your colour if that's how you like studying. =)
Cool bro, keep having faith in yourself and study how you feel would be best for you. =)
very nice studies mate ........ keep it up![]()
Kungfoowiz- Thanks for checkin out my sketchbook! I actually have an interest in dynamic color schemes, if that's what you mean. Check out Jeremy Sutton's work. He goes crazy with color lol. But I know what you mean- it's too bright. I should tone it down still.
agrmrs- Thanks a lot! I will do.

Hey Gang! here's some more old summer stuff down below\/!
I'm just posting old stuff to show how I was improving over this summer. I have a folder full of summer art with incomplete sketches and things like that lol.. I'll update some of my current art when I clear out this old folder!
A lot of these were from posemaniacs, some were from my old life-drawing class. I look back and laugh at these...

I love those figure studies! Nice work![]()
Hey Andre thanks for visiting my SB. I really like yours and I can see how much you've improved in just these two pages. I love the colour you use. Makes your art look very vibrant and I can feel the energy. You have some very cool ideas and creatures and I'm really looking forward to seeing more.![]()
Hey bro
I really LOVE your figure drawings.. shouldn't maybe be laughing at them, they are nice and flowing..
Have fun with your next piece. =)
Lots of figure studies here, very inspiring to see such dedication. My advice to you would be to focus a bit more on values as opposed to colors for now, as that seems to be a weakness of yours that you should tackle before you even begin to think about colors. Keep going!
Hey great work. Keep it coming.
artistcaleb- thanks for viewing. I hope to get better in time!
Marian Rowling- Hi Marian! Thanks for viewing. Glad you like it. I like to experiment with color. It seems people are pointing that out to me lol! But I think I should stick to greyscale for now, to understand tone better.
Kungfoowiz- Thanks man! I will keep posting.
cgaddict- Thanks for the tip cgaddict. I understand what you mean! More greyscales coming!
benlinalexander- Thanks for stopping by benlinalexander! I definitely will keep going.

HEy All!
I really want to start a new year, I hope to refresh my understandings about everything, and make things that weren't really clear even clearer! with that being said, I also want to clear out my unfinished art folder- it's mostly all the environment art I was doing from the summer on my tablet. So this is going to be a massive art rage dump lol.. . I see so many things wrong with a all of them that need fixing. It's a good sign that I have improved!
Only one is from reference, and the fish one was my aunt's fishtank with goldfish, but I added a character for fun. It was done when I was trying out corel painter 2-- I really don't like that program much.
thanks for checking mon!. peace!

Alright Gang! I think my summer art folder is at least half-way clear! I had a folder from this summer of all the stuff I was doing to improve. A lot of unfinished arts!
Which means, in order to get this folder all clear for my new years, this is going to have to be another massive art post!
and please forgive me for going backward! I just feel I should show my progress. It's been four months, so I have obviously improved. All crits welcome as usual:thumbsup:
-The first set is all a bunch of cartoon faces, and real life faces I was attempting. I think two of the pics are the Caricature work that I did at Canada's wonderland. Caricaturing taught me a lot. And I loved the opportunity! great summer job!

Hi hi ^^ thanks for dropping by my SB , and I have to say a hell lot of improvement in most aspects of you work! better shapes, better use and understanding of color, and the studies keep doing them, it was allready worth it !
Might say that I have disagree with the part that says you have to abandon all the nice little options your brush gives you, as I myself recently discovered its one of the most inspiring, helpful and integral aspect of digital art , its your armamentarium, it may give you absolutly new ways to work things out, so my advice to would be : USE IT ! all of the options, look for tutorials online how to make and use brushes, textures and brush-sets ...because its like in traditional art you can become better just by using better materials plus it will give you a hole lot new opportunities.
a last tip from me would be to purchase the book : digital painting techniques ( focal press) made by the guys from 3DTotal.com ...its a gigantic source of knowledge for a young artist !
so long
Seb
I can tell you're working hard!
Some things I've noticed: Your traditionals are MUCH more successful than your digital works. I just...don't connect with what you've done digitally, on the whole. But your gestures are absolutely wonderful, accurate and sensitive. What happens in the transition?
I think maybe you're relying on white backgrounds in digital too. Start with a grey tone. The white is distracting and devalues the color and tone of your image. Also, try using a textured brush, and a bigger brush. Do just color studies without trying to get an image in there per se.
And stick with something long enough to master it! While it's admirable that you're all over the place, you're leaving these paths unsolved. Continue until you're proficient, and then move on. Example: those charicatures. Great stuf, I can see a definite improvement throughout. But for some reason, I see, in your faces especially, that you get really close to solving the issue of proportion, and then you slip right back into your old mistakes. Be careful!
Ignore my ramblings at will![]()

Partisan- Thanks for suggestions. I'm still trying to settle down with my current brushset. I don't have a perfect brushset yet, but I'm in the process of trying to use the most basic ones. The fancy texture stuff isn't necessary right now I think. It's all about the good basic painterlyness lol. And yeah, I have A LOT of books to get. Only If I had money though haha...
kiwigarbage- THanks for comment. What you said was basically right. I have started using tonal backgrounds for my digitals. I've also started doing color excercises-- just splashing color combinations everywhere on the page, just to "feel" it, without attempting a picture. It's a good idea actually. And I know my work is exploring ideas "everywhere" but I like that. I hope to have in the future, the skill to do anything. It hasn't proven me to be a bad thing so far as I know.. peace!
