    Question A good day job

    A guy's gotta eat..
Or in this case, I just want to make some money to see my family (not myself) go some places. My situations are actually pretty nice, I have a supportive family member who's doing everything in their power to help me... In return I try busting my back doing yard work etc. whenever I can or whatever needs doing.. But I know this can't really continue.
I've been trying to do what studying I can; reading, drawing, the works, but I know I can't keep it up like this until I finally deem myself ready for the art industry. And before anyone asks, I'm not in a university, I'm studying independently. So this is less about what a good day job would be, but more so about what would good hours be.

I know not to aim for fast food. I used to be a dish washer, did not enjoy my experiences. Something at like a grocery or retail store would be nice, at least just to make things easier on my family while I try improving myself and working on my own independent things.

I just want to make sure I don't get a job that may end up draining my energy too much or spend too much of my time making a minimum wage salary and lose time for studying.

It'll probably be hard to find one any way so I know I can't be too picky either. (I'm sure half a year out of high school and no employment since then would look great on a resume... ._.)

I really just have no clue what to expect or what to look for out there and no one around me has been able to offer any solid advice, most just telling me to give up my dreams completely and try getting a "real job and a real career".

    Thanks in advance.

I was in your situation till a few days ago, when a pretty nice job hit me from the skies. Now I'm working some kind of a freelance work for a new publisher in my city and I have to draw coloring books, pain illustration for children's books and the pay isn't bad at all. And the best part is that I think I have the time to get a second job and make even more money!
    This is getting seriously serious.

What about working part time at an art supply store? At least you can get pencils cheaper.

    Thank you for the suggestions.

The art supply store would sound nice if I could find one around me hiring.

As for me landing a lucky job falling into my lap from no where.. I don't expect that to happen any time soon, if ever lol.

Front desk attendant is good too. Especially if it's a quiet company, I used to finish my clerical tasks around 11am and draw all afternoon. It was boring as hell but productive art-wise.
