The Art of Jeff Miracola (update pg. 2)

    Hey everyone,

It's been far too long since I've posted anything here, although I regularly check out everyone's awesome work. Here are a few pieces of art completed recently.

The Yeti illustration was done for Advanced Photoshop magazine (Nov. 2009 issue). The animal illustrations were done for a web developer building a social networking site for animal enthusiasts. I did twelve animal illustrations, but only four are pictured here. The rest are at my website. The other piece of art with the guy against the wall is a personal piece entitled "protected."

Thanks guys. Those animal illustrations were a lot of fun to do. Each one took from 3 to 4 hours to complete.

    Wow. Nice!

Jeff, I really like where these are going.
There is something a bit more 'organic' about these, as compared to your previous work.
    Keep going!

Funny you say that because when I was close to finishing it, I saw the same similarities. But since I think Pelancar's work is awesome, I was okay with it. I love his subtle tonal shifts. I was definitely going for that in this piece, but wasn't trying to ape his style at all. I just wanted the slightly more muted color palette than I normally use. Somehow it just ended up looking like the color choices and soft tones that he chooses to use.

Jeff, these are really complex and beautiful. The attention to textural diversity really tickles my fancy and cool to see your traditional skill set shining through as well.

    naz,
These are all Photoshop, even the owl. The "vector" tools in Photoshop are much more to my liking than Illustrator. I've just always found them easier to work with. I really dig the gorilla as well. thanks.

    Jason (Bomba),
Great to hear from you, bro! You know I'm always up for seeing what you're working on. When you gonna post something again. I need my fix!

    smokenmirrors,
I'v done other pieces where I pushed that cut paper look a lot further. I have some ideas to do some more complex pieces like that. I'll just have to find some more time in the day to do it. Never enough time to do all we want to.

...I think looking at the Owl opened my Inner Eye o_O

The animal series is gorgeous. I also really enjoy the way you combined the sharp "computer-y" lines with a rougher, textured background on the yeti piece.

Jeff - Cool, I didn't know you were on CA, nice to see your name popping up. I have to say your work has changed a lot from what you used to do post school days, quality has remained the same though.

Hey guys, thanks for all the kind words!

Boo! - Yeah, I have managed to quietly slip out of doing Magic art. I shifted my focus a while back to working on children's books and other stuff. Magic was great for me, but I was glad to finally move on.

Steve - your work is great, and disturbing, as always. I love it!! Yes, my style has changed just a bit ;-)

Here is another piece of art I just finished. It's a Mayan-inspired monster. Been working on a series of these. This is the second decorative monster in the series. The first one, Indian-inspired, is below as well. I'm already 50% done with the third one and will post when it's complete. Also included some close-ups.

This piece of art was created for the Beautiful Grim Art Auction, an auction put together by fellow illustrator, Daarken and animator, Lief Jeffers with the purpose of raising money for Daarken’s girlfriend who has a lot of medical bills due to her fight against breast cancer.

Visit BeautifulGrim.org to learn more about the auction.
