Big Daddy Costume and Photo Shoot

If you are a BioShock fan, you have to check this out! A friend of mine recently had the opportunity to have a photo shoot at the Georgia Aquarium with his Big Daddy costume which he fabricated from scratch.

Grendel Grack: If it's the same person, I LOVED that he documented the making of the costume. Everything is absolutely awesome and these pictures are being spread on every single gaming network I know (Kotaku, personal emails, work "fun" lists at studios, facebook, etc.). The only crit I'd have is the heavy and very noticeable photo editing in some pics.

    GriNGo: Why so serious?

He's also the guy who made the portal gun for his girlfriend (who is the Little Sister in the photo), and he made a kickass Laser Rifle from Fallout 3.

Agree with egerie: The super heavy photo manipulation doesn't show off the actual costumes well enough.

BUT, having said that, ZOMG I want this guy's stuff! He is amazing! The Portal gun is HAWT!

egerie: He did document all of his progress and he's getting a great deal of internet exposure at the moment. There is a very good chance we are talking about the same person. To my knowledge, there are only one or two other people that have attempted to make this suit that have gotten any press.

psychotime: He actually can't see much while inside the suit. There are two fan vents near the top and two near the bottom of the dome through which he can see directly above and directly below the suit. Otherwise, he needs handlers to help guide him. The diffusers in the small round portholes can be removed from the inside so that he can see out, but he keeps them in to preserve the effect.

I agree that the photos are a bit over the top when it comes to manipulation. The photographer had final say on that. If you want some pictures of the suit without any filters and some really interesting in-progress shots, take a look at the Volpin Props blog entry about the work he did for Dragon*Con, here.

This is one of my favorite photos. It really gives you a sense of scale and how hard he wears his pants.

Awesome suit, but someone got a little crazy with the highpass filter... I can't stand HDR/HDR imitation.

This guy has a real talent.

EDIT: and he lives right down the road. Maybe I'll see if I can stop by and see the portal gun in person! :]
