Wacom and the HP Touchsmart PC

Wacom and the HP Touchsmart PC. Has anyone tried these two together? The Touchsmart can be seen here: http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/touchsmart/.

I would like to know if this could be used somewhat like a Cintiq?

There's is a Touchsmart PC that has multi-touch technology that can allow one to "zoom" with a pinching motion.

So has anyone tried these two out together? Or even used the Touchsmart by itself? What do you think? What do you view as the pros and cons of owning a Touchsmart and will there be competition from Mac?

the hp touchsmart screen does allow those zoom functions and such you mention, but it also allows input via fingers or pen (only the digital pen it comes with) it does Not have any pressure sensitivity when using the pen on the screen, and it does Not detect the wacom pen for usage on the screen - you'd still need to use a wacom tablet to use the wacom pen or to get pressure sensitivity. barring that - if you're doing flat linework or some graphic style or whatever and you don't need the pressure sensitivity, when you use the hp digital pen on the screen it works pretty much the same as a cintiq does with the wacom, you still get that slight offset in where you place the pentip and where the digital cursor is, etc.

it's a good machine, but if you're looking to totally replace the wacom tablet, you might want to look into getting an actual cintiq, or supposedly the Toshiba Lifebook laptops Do have pressure sensitivity with their pen on the screen, but still they have their own pen and also don't recognize finger input.

i've got the hp touchsmart, and it runs photoshop, painter, the latest video games even, all no problem (customized it via hp to near top spec's) and i'm rather happy with it overall, even though for 95% of my work i still use the wacom pen/tablet. the one major problem i have with it is it's screen size resolution max limit is 1280x800, which on its own doesnt allow for a whole lot. however to offset that it's got ports for hooking up a secondary display screen and runs several easily without complications.

Thanks a lot for your input. It does help hearing it from a fellow artist instead of the nerdy tech guy at Office Depot trying to sell it to me. :p

Actually, it does have pressure sensitivity but the newer versions (I think it's tx2-1200 and newer or something) use different drivers that don't support neither Photoshop nor Painter. It's far from as sensitive as wacom stuff, but yeah. I'm still hoping for the guys to release proper drivers for it

I definitely won't replace my Wacom, but this definitely allows for more workspace for me. I'm pretty convinced I'll enjoy it.
