Skin tone and lighting studies from MMA photography. I think I'm picking up a lot from these, definately feeling more confident with them, and skin tones in general.
Also I should mention that I recently just turned 18!![]()

Another values/lighting study. This one's done from some of MJRanum's stock on Deviantart.

Awesome work dude! You're sense of colour is just insane...I don't really have any crits, just keep posting.![]()

Thanks Psychobuddy!
Sketch done in Photoshop. I basically wanted to draw something dynamic for a change since my characters are usually so stationary. I didn't use any refs so the perspective is probably flawed, either way, I quite like it.

Such a good use of color in this last one. I think the purple and blue look really solid in this image.
Thanks Pete,
Painted this one back in August. I was trying to put into practice everything I had learned about colour and value so far and really push what I was capable of. Doing longer pieces like this definitely helps to uncover what you really need to work on most. I was pretty chuffed with it a couple months back but obviously I still need to polish up on my fundamentals.
I've also taken to studying faces more often recently.

I admire your very thorough studies, and the textures in the last post are great! Wow, I have a lot of work to do as well. ):
I want to take a gap year after high school too..
That banshee would look even cooler if you made the bottom part like thick spider webbing.
Also like the idea of using mma fighters for ref.
This is a very nice sketchbook you have got here, consider me a new fan!
The sense of color in post #362 just blew me away and your sketches have a great style to them.
Owlies - Thanks, if you are certain you'll be productive its well worth it
fireblade - yea, that was an idea that ran through my head while I was painting it. MMA dudes weren't my idea though, seems plenty folks here study from them
Cheboboh - Thanks!I love hearing positive comments about my sketches, since I'm always looking to find something in them.
Some arm studies from life and photographs and also a couple of 15 minute-ers from a life drawing session I went to the other day.

Argh all these are great![]()
It's really awesome all the stuff you're doing to get better...so much improvement!
Random comment: your pencil work tends to look kind of blocky/stiff and maybe it's because you're too focused on the lines? You could try drawing with something really blunt and imprecise just so you focus on some other things too. And yeah nice color work![]()
Hey joe nioce studies you should update more often if you can,
Nice life studies thats a lot to get down in 15 mins whilst paying spo much attention to proprtion, hope you keep the life drawing up after only one session I ma already addicted. Think it will help with cementing your own anatomy studies. I sort of see where Clu is coming from in terms of talking about blockyness. I think its because the lines you use a very angular at the moment. I find that angular lines help me when blocking in a figure but think you should add some more movement and flow to your lines by paying more attention to natural contour lines as well. This will help give more life and rhythm to your figure work (which is very solid on many fronts) Not sure how muchg gestrural stuff your doing at the moment but its a good way to go. Apologies if its somthing your aleady doing. But I like your updates. I can tell your a hard worker so keep at it.
Clu and Ja - Thanks!
Yes, you're absolutely right about my pencil work being really blocky, and it is because I am so preoccupied with getting nice tight lines. I don't know why I've always had this obsession with getting lines neat and tidy, ofttimes I'll get really OCD about one or two lines being 'just right' and I'll rub it out and do it over.![]()
I think a large part of it is also to do with my influences, I get really inspired by the kind of pencil work you see in comics and stuff, I just love really thick gritty lines. Joe Madureira and Ludovic Moulière are just two examples of artists that I love.
So yes, that is something I need to focus on; more rhythmic and loose lines. Thanks for the crits!
Some pen sketches-

nice lines you've got here
also some interesting design
will visit this sb more oftensubscribed
Thank you sir! My pleasure
Here's another pen sketch. Some kind of assassin/thief type character that utilizes subterfuge. The gradient is a multiply layer added in PS, I think it just makes the silhouette appear more solid.

Heh. Really like the poses on those last few character sketches.
They have a lot of intention/personality to 'em.
Thanks Zen!, yea I am trying to give my characters some more suggestive poses, but all round they are still rather static.
Studies from Bridgman, tried to include some more gestural/loose sketches people have asked for.

thanks for comment
i know Richard Anderson very well and of course being influenced by him
talking about rock study from previous page, i think it will be god idea to use for such tighten up photos lasso tool or pen tool
the more techniques you use the better
t.
Ah well, no surprise I made the comparison then! That rock study actually was done with the lasso tool, though probably not in the best way.
Some Golem concepts, I was inspired playing Darksiders II, loads of awesome Golem designs in that game.

Very cool and solid character designs. Turn them into digitals, guess that'd be a great exercise to practice rendering and learn about colors.
awesome style, love the linework so clean. maybe try get harder edges in ur work.
hey,..I would love to see some "big" coloured picture with the golem guy...
nice
Nice to see you updating a bit more def keep it all coming
for me the master of this technique is this guy
