the place through which they are traveling
the cultural flavour of the people

Im thinking a post apocalyptic theme, people that travel the doomed earth looking for leftovers of the old world.

Interesting topic this week, thought I might give it a try. The nomads are desert dwellers, that move from one desert oasis to the next. The roof of the caravan to the left, will carry a nest of messenger pigeons as the gypsy's form of communication to the outside world.

maria I love the sprightly and carnival quality of this, couple things still with in the bright style you are adopting.... some of the "Vehicles" in the Caravan don't look very mobile. and to establishyour tape measure ribbon you need to think a little about some kind of perspective to help creat your space.

    how is this a caravan?

    Wapedia v
    Wiki: Caravan (travellers)
    Search Wikipedia!

A caravan (Persian: کاروان) is a group of people traveling together, often on a trade expedition. Caravans were used mainly in desert areas and throughout the Silk Road, where traveling in groups aided in defense against bandits as well as helped to improve economies of scale in trade.

a caravan is not a bunch of people escaping, or a jihad.. a caravan is a lifestyle and a community lifestyle choice.

Cool topic and I've got a idea I want to paint. I've tried to start in Photoshop, but after failing few times (I couldn't catch the "flow" for compositing and shaping forms), so I've decided to draw on papier first (it's MUCH easier for me to do these two things), then do some under/over painting in Photoshop

Ah, I was going by the dictionary definition, "A company of travelers journeying together, as across a desert or through hostile territory."

I'm finding its a bit of a challenge to compose for both the landscape/environment and still have elements close enough for cultural details.

Hello everyone This is my entry for this weeks EOW. This is actully my first time taking part in the EOW so Im not exactly sure what i do to post for the final. If anyone could throw a few helpful words of advice i would be very thankful.

As you can see I went with an aztec culture. This was alot of fun and took me away from what I normaly do. I did alot of research to try and get colorschemes and such to be Aztecish. Let me know what you think.

My WIP. I think the end goal here will be post-apocalyptic new yorkers running a salvage caravan over (what's left) of their former city.

I'm going to need to come up with some more iconography if I want to sell this as new york and the people as new yorkers. As you can tell, I got a bit distracted painting sand, durr.

Not sure if I want to go with actual camels or just something similar; placeholders for now.

Hi Wade. Might I suggest sports memorabelia? Yankee hats, Knicks Jerseys. You could go all out with an I NY shirt/bumper sticker. Maybe an old license plate that had the statue of liberty on it, ala Ghost Busters 2 dangling like "flare" from a camel. Post apocalyptic yellow taxi armor? That's enough out of me for now. I like your image so far. Obviously I'm inspired by it
