Wow I saw some really good art up there guys. That's awesome!
Here's another bug and color study.
hello daggers!
My name is Alex Negrea and i have been watching you for a long time. I really appreciate what you do and you
guys inspire me a lot and give me the power to keep on studying and drawing (no BS).
I wanted to enter the past golden boy competitions but time was not on my side because i had to finish the
diploma project for my school and besides that i have a full time job and it eats the most of my day.
anyways... this month i have started to wake up at 6am and started studiing before going to work. Here are the
studies that i did so far this month (the rendered ones - i have some gesture stuff that i have to scale down
before posting and some studies after vilppu). The order is cronologicaly.
Some of the studies were done while streaming on my channel. http://www.livestream.com/alexnegrea
the references were mostly from mjranum stock from deviantart
@SergeantCrow - i like very much the expression that you achieve in your studies. Keep on rockin!
@morten - that black girl portrait is amazing. I love how you rendered the pores on the skin and the colors. did
you used dave's texturing technique to create those pores? great job!
@SamC - dude you know that you are epic right?i wish i was drawing at 17! Good luck!
@steflack - love that turntable study. i would love to see some color on those and some facesgreat job!
@awynt - love that water study. it really feels like water.
@dilated - your line quality is uber cool!
@fudgeloaf - i like that paper clip thingie (hope that is the word for it)
@pkmike - nothing much to say.. you are awesome!

A silhouette and sunset study. This was a quick and dirty painting.
Hey Daggers, here's a bunch of recent photo studies I've done to get better at painting straight to colour.

Never though i would be posting on the Dagger's thread.
My name is Aryeh Clark. Ive been doing this for about 2 1/2 years. Right now i do a lot of drawing but i study painting in college.
Anyways, i wont do a whole intro. I will post here in the future.
New Dagger...?
I had the idea of using photos as reference for rendering in greyscale. I originally planned to do 9 thumbnails, 3x4" at 150dpi without zooming in for detail work, and then I would take one of the thumbnails and do a full-size, 300dpi version and render in detail.
I decided not to time the thumbs, since it felt like I was really picking up something here (especially considering how BAD the first two days went...). Also, I only ended up doing only 3 thumbs in the 5 hours I worked.
Here are the results from yesterday's study (in chronological order):
(I already know I should have done the extra effort of turning the 2nd photo to greyscale before working on it...)
(here is the original photo-reference for the last thumb)
I've decided that after today and tomorrow's study, I'll go back and pick one of the 9 thumbs I've done and do a full-size 300dpi detailed render a day for the 3 days after.
This is my first official post for the Daggers, I'm hoping to keep doing studies every day for a year; I'm keeping up a personal journal on my deviantART.
Thanks for being encouraging

Studying some more landscapes. I tried not to work the painting too much and still get some detail in there.
Hey again, fellow C.Daggs!
Here is half of today's study. I want to start working in more studies on actually rendering correct form. The last 3 days have been a concentration on developing actual technique for digital illustration. Basically the primary goal of my previous studies was to find out how to actually render the desired image; though I was paying attention to the use of value and the overall form of the subject matter, I wasn't really concentrating on how the light interacts with form, it's direction and how it plays with the planes of the subjects.
Now that I feel I have at least something rudimentary, I think now I can actually start on practicing some of the Loomis stuff and start concentrating on those aspects. So here my goal was to break down the figure in the reference, and then see how the light defined its form. Later I will start rendering the image and try to recall what I discovered in actually breaking this one apart.
Keep it up everyone!

Good day to you all, fellow Daggers, time for Day 6!
The image links to my deviantArt, if you're at all curious about the intention behind the study. It's a bit long and involved, so I won't waste the space here. I will be coming back to the initial value-sketch for today's study and see how far I can take it to finish.
Good luck to you all! Much talent and inspiration around here!
