you've got a great amount of studies, that's very good!

I think you're focusing too much on outlines tho, it's like you're trying to copy what you see to paper by just putting an outline around it. that makes your drawings very flat, and mistakes show up easily because you're not sure which lines are important and which aren't.
it's a lot more important to understand what you're drawing, in terms of 3d shapes and weight, force, etc. those are the things you should be trying to describe with lines. have a look at other people's drawings and see how they seem to wrap their lines around 3d shapes, and how they vary line weight and strength to add a little bit of extra zing

jeremy: thanks, i'll drop by soon.

NeonDuck: Thanks for the advice, when I first read this I wasn't quite sure how to respond to it but now (a few weeks later) I really do get what you mean.

On a weekend in between finals:

Trying to think in 3d form, inspired by Feng Zhu's videos.
From life, and then a fail attempt to re-imagine in a different angle.
kind of working on perspective with it too.

    Crackin' some skulls..
I have this idea in my head that if I draw/paint it enough times I'll get it stuck in my head.

All from photos/books, I wish I had a skull to draw from life from. More to come.

This one is kind of a double exercise.. Working without pen pressure:

and finally a doodle from imagination. I have no idea how bunnies work.
    Happy Chinese New Year!

Tried to do some color but failed so I just retreated to my safe comfort zone of grayscale..

Have studies but don't feel like scanning. I'll probably do it tomorrow. I need to find my camera.

    From pbase - 15min each

and then an attempt from imagination to apply those studies with a fairly uninteresting/plain concept. This one was probably 40-60min

aand a self portrait I forgot to post from awhile ago

Some studies from today and yesterday

2 point perspective, freehand obviously..still making a lot of mistakes on these.

and then from photos/imagination, some are more focused on anatomy, some are more geared toward gesture..

love that face in your thread attachment, keep up all the studies! Cheers. On the perspective studies, are you using a ruler? letting some of the lines diverge away from the vantage point will keep things very wonky, if you don't have access to a ruler, try ghosting the line on top of the page a few times before actually drawing it in to build a bit of muscle memory.

Good studies, man! Seems like you're really trying to get structure down, with all the perspective stuff and trying to nail multiple angles. Those head studies in particular are showing some planar understanding, which is great. Dunno if you've already done work from his books or not, but if not, start copying Bridgeman, you're really going to pick up a lot from it. (Although, for your own sanity, keep an anatomy book open beside it).

    Cheers,

    Sid

Sidharth Chaturvedi: I've studied/looked at Complete Guide to Drawing from Life and also Hundred Hands.. Is there another one you specifically recommend?

teapo: hey teapo. They're about 600-700 px wide at 100%. Cheers

Metal Fingers: Haha yeah I'm doing these all freehand. Still need to learn how to draw straight lines :/ Thanks for the tip man.

That last self portrait is looking better. The lips look a little small on average the self portraits though. Also on that last one you could use some gray to cool down the jaw line a bit,if you want it cool.

Also beside muscle memory the Id exercises are also a good opportunity to practice visualizing, trying to see things on the paper before you draw it, bobby chui has talked about it a few times and the ten minute drawing guy in my sig has talked about it a few times.

The studies are looking good too keep going.

    Ahh getting distracted.
Freehand perspective work: trying some 3 point.

And then a mech type thing that I'm sort of satisfied with. Definitely should of done this in photoshop (lol @ the eraser smudges from erasing perspective guidelines..)
Just from imagination to try and apply the perspective learning.

d00d that last one would look so nice with a different head, maybe a t-rex? and make the centre line of the head follow the spine line, that'd look so rad
also pretty solid self portraits, value and rendering wise, the structure needs a bit of work (mine too! D8) but yeah great stuff mate! keep it up! your working so hard

Good stuff in here skMOP, I like your teen challenge submittion too, but I think a larger value range would've definitely benefited in the end. In some parts it's a little hard to tell whether or not it's armor or not and it's sometimes difficult to see where certain objects end and begin. You're improving tons though man, keep it up
