    Fever Ray- I'm Not Done...

    @snatti: atey! thanks my friend the book in that post is the Tactics Ogre complete guide ^^" i'm a nerd for collecting the japanese version of the guide books as they contain the artwork and yes, portraits in the mirror are indeed tricky!

    @raminafshari: thanks ramin~

    @orochigenocide: thank you orochi! yeah portraits are one of my weakest aspects. i definitely agree with you on pushing more of the values to pull out more of the forms. i'm fine when drawing a cast/bust portrait but actual ppl is tough *study more*

    @lolbbq: thanks bbq! no reference for those, they were done from my mind. but as i look at them again-- they don't seem to be much improvement o.o" then again, it was kinda rushed and used as a test of seeing what i retained from the hogarth book. i'm still going to do ref studies though!

    @Silent-samurai87: why thank you samurai~ i want you to create a sketchbook! ^^"

    @Fallenangel: ty fallen! i agree, faces/head/portrait is the hardest thing for me

    @Silwynar: haha definitely sil! send me pics of your face so i can study! haha jkjk

    @skMOP: ah yes... i see what you mean skmop. thank you for the crit portraits portraits portraits!

    @Just Call Me Bruce!: thank you sir bruce! i'm glad you mentioned the more direct light source issue i didn't really have a good light source but i will keep it in mind for future SPs.

    @karantina: thanks karantina! i agree with everyone too ahhh! haha.

    @ThomasM: thank you thomas! hearing that from a pencil master is always good news 100 pages??! haha soon my friend... soon

    @Yor: thank you Yor! will most definitely keep going~ you too!

    @Bethany K.: thanks bethany~

    waaaahhhh... all this talk about portraits/faces and head construction is rly good! i'm glad you are all able to provide me with helpful crits! so i will lean more of my studies toward heads and such but will still try to balance everything else; imagination and the overall anatomy and gotta do more landscape thingies... okay so here's a tiny update (once again) sorry!

    this drawing is def. inspired by a danielC sketch-- but mostly, i wanted to play with composition and how to implement negative shapes more effectively :U

    i will drop by the sketchbooks tmw *promise*

    interesting work there with negative shapes. I haven't done anything like that myself recently, so maybe today is the day.

    No crits, just keep on doing what you're doing. And I don't think there is any catching up for you to do! We just have different strengths and weaknesses. It will be cool to see where we both are when we reach 100 pages (when not if!)

    Very cool stuff so far. If you can hone in your skills on drawing directly from observation, I bet your imaginative stuff will be even more phenomenal. Keep rockin'.

    Now I need to up my game.

    That cast study is very nice. remember the three types of edges (hard, soft, lost). you should look to make your various edges very distinct from each other this will help your forms push foward.

    You should check out Mucha's drawings. I know that hair for both of us is still a learning process. but maybe his work is a great starting place.

    keep it up, ciao!

    @ryanoir: hahaha i fking lol'd reading that thx bro!

    @towy: yes an HB pencil mr. towy ! thanks

    @tronrobot: ty tron haha

    @jramauri: no problem jramauri and thank you! i haven't been working in layers lately so with that study i decided to use layers and then post the progress.

    @fudgeloaf: thanks fudge! umm there's no particular website i use for the busts. i have one that i bought for 60-70 bucks (i think?) and then i google image search for 'baroque' or 'classical' statues/busts and study from those as well.

    @Silwynar: thanks sil! haha we will see about the 100 pages i agree with my proportion issues *study*

    @orochigenocide: thank you orochi! i'm glad you mentioned my observational drawing skills-- because i totally suck at that-- you will see with this update

    @lolbbq: thanks as always bbq! and i will look into mucha's drawings as well!

    okay so i finally got to attend a life drawing session (once a week/wednesdays) and i must say that it was fun BUT it made me realize that my observational skills are not at its best-- at least when drawing people i used my moleskine and i feel very limited and constrained when drawing with it so i think for next week i will try to get a bigger drawing pad. i could have filled up these pages more but some of them have like 1 or 2 gestures in them and it's like wasting paper

    i found out that i rely a lot on contours and should probably just do some simple approaches with building up from the main shapes and curvatures of the figure to better understand the structure-- so i'll put an effort to change that for the next session.

    also, did a quick lighting and color study (no refs) from my head to get my brain thinking-- sketched up some booty while listening to bikini break on repeat lululz. okay i will stop by the SBs tomorrow~ goodnight!

    hard work and practice the only way to improve

    Your self portraits are hugely improved from the one's you did last year. Its amazing to see how your growth. I see you are doing more studies, I wondered what your resource was for the anatomy studies. For me learning how planes turn in the light are hard, yet I see you are modeling your figures better and better in defining those planes. I first started viewing your sb I think around Apr 2010 and the difference is stunning.

    Awesome that you got to do some life drawing. That's one thing I don't like about moleskines, you kind of feel pressured to be amazing on each page or use it so that it's "worth it". Not to say that they aren't great sketchbooks, but yeah, I would get a large pad of newsprint for life drawing! Practice drawing big!

    @sombertwin: somber! thanks and i'm glad you notice some improvements~ i do recall your comment on my sketchbook back in april and your name stands out so i immediately remembered you! regarding my anatomy resources-- i have a few pdf files on loomis/bridgman/hogarth as well as surfing deviant art for stock photos to reference from

    @Bethany K.: thanks bethany! and yes, i agree they are somewhat stiff jus gotta do even more studies eh?

    @skMOP: definitely agree with you vincent~ i will bring a bigger drawing pad next time! keke.. thx!

    okay so today i took my head bust and did a mini 'atelier' setup in my bedroom and did the observation study from the laptop! the colors are off since photoshop color profile on my lappy doesn't match the desktop! o well

    Wow, the colors for the bust looks spot on. I really like the soft orange half-tones you put in on the left side. It complements really well with the blue cloth in the background.

    Man you post to much!
    I like your danielC inspired sketch, I think that turned out really well.
    A few of your recent figure drawings came out really nicely too.
    And man you got a cooler bust then I have (I've got a really weird one and a shiny one), anyway on the painting of them I think you've got some good rendering but it's the proportions that let it down I think. your first one (from a photo?) has better proportions then the last one, which looks like he has a really big face(a problem I come across in my own work).
    I would recommend that you spend a bit more time on the drawing (if you did the second one the same as the first).
    Happy drawing
    Edit: page 33 congrats!
