It's a shame that I didn't visit and comment this sketchbook for such a long time! You're doing an absolutly great job, Teapo. I like every update you have around here. All this character stuff... I'm jealous of your heads. They look so good, even the unfinished ones have much character in them. And the linework sketches are awesome! Simple, but they work.

It's just the work with colours that bothers me. In many parts I miss the variation of hues and more influences from the surrounding colours. But well, if you do more colored studies, I'm sure you get how to handle that topic. There is so much potential around here, you can do it!

i must say that you feel oils more as a medium
they have expression, texture, this things are lacking in your digital
armour is rendered same way as clothing

i recommend you ArtRage for digital oils, give it a try!
also going thorough number of master studies to develop painting techniques
    this guy is awesome http://www.shaddyconceptart.com/category/blogs/ai-class
    check also his tuts

    Hey!
Great studies and sketches, as was mentioned before your oils look awesome!
My only crit would be that imo, there is a harsh distinction between the faces that you draw/paint from refs and those that you sketch yourself.
It seems that you "forget" whatever you learn in the anatomy/face studies you do and sketch them your "own" way, as a result most of your sketched character's faces look quite the same and their proportions are far less accurate.

Try to keep in mind all those "rules" for the face's anatomy even when you sketch out your own stuff.

Anyways, hope it helped a lil....
    Cheers,
    Fallen.

thanks for that awesome link takashmen. i agree with you in that my digitals lack texture. should be experimenting with more brushes to depict certain materials but also... still life studies. i'm sure many textures can be depicted with just the basic hard round / soft round but my knowledge on rendering different materials is lacking at the moment

thx Alex Eh! let's keep going

definitely some helpful words Fallenangel! i know, i seem to ignore what i'm actually observing/studying from life or referenced studies and not applying enough of it in my own work. certainly i'm not working in a smart fashion which is probably why i'm progressing at a slow rate. i need to be more methodical and work smarter

lastly.... i feel really bad for not visiting any sketchbooks in a long time, but i will make an effort to drop by a few this coming Thanksgiving break. this is my last semester of school you see, so i graduate in december and i'm trying to just make my last classes for this semester a good one. have a good night~

no worries man. You are improving, these values dont come that easy. Also i like how your figures appear to be bulky [in the meaning of having nice depth rather than flat]. Edges will help you enchance some parts. Do some research on them when you have time.
    keep up the great work!!!

    thanks Aryeh! definitely

ty very much kingkostas. research to come!

not a substantial update but here anyway~

-kinda moping how horrid this came out but happy with some of the values; edges mainly causing the form to fall flat in some areas.
also rushed it a bit... never a good thing.
    anyway, i must move on!

    really cool paintings!
you tend to work pretty dark like the second one of #1668, that's kind of a shame because you lose a lot of detail in the darkness :/

yo mate good work with the studies and the application on these from mind is great [the issue comes on its relation to the surrounding space, when in color]. The thing that first come to my mind is edges. I feel the lack of some really hard edge even if really limited. It helps hook the eye.
Branding? can you share some more info? i have heard something but i am not sure i know enough.

Yoo teapo its been awhile since I dropped by, but just wanted to say that your digital stuff has improved a lot!! Try to think a little bit about texture, some of the stuff is blended too smoothly and starts to look same-ish.

Gosh, Teapo! You're starting to get great in digital painting! Seems like you learn to transfer your skill from oil to digital brushes. I love it how you can work with a mixture of broad brushstrokes and very soft surfaces. There's so much depth in the faces that I can't achieve yet. I just feel some minor problems in the structure, for example in these two portraits:

Forehead, cheekbones and the jaws seems to be kind of lined up. I'm missing a kind of more standing out of the parts. If you look at the contour on the right side of the right portrait, it is a bit like a straight line down. It takes a lot away from the otherwise very manly shapes. There's some variation gone missing.
And I see a problem between the upper part of the head and the lower part. The lower part looks really massive. It works for the left one, because the guy is more cartoony, but the right one feels like he has a very small brain in there. Some masses of the back of the head seems to be missing.
Maybe you can keep an eye on these things if they happen more often in your work from imagination.

Overall, keep up the good work! =D

    Eeey Mike!
Get over here again and update daily! D:
We need to get our sketchbooks rolling again, including YOU.

You're probably thinking WTF, who the hell is writing to me.
    It's actually me, Lukas (Silwynar).

Studies are looking good but your stuff from imagination is still lacking some skills. Watch out for your values. You tend to paint only in the midtones.

    Keep it up!

thanks Elias Leonard! i see what you mean where it tends to get pretty dark XD

ty kingkostas! yeah there's a lack of hard edges in these recent digitals. i think it's something that i like but i do need to learn how to render more with the hard brushes. oh, i meant 'branding' as just stamping your site/blog on your images haha.

thanks vincent! yeah, gotta study more materials for texture variations.

    thank you Yemi775!

ty Valyavande! i agree about the structure of my heads. to be honest, i haven't been doing much anatomy studies as of late... but i will need to do them again. i must get better!

Dankeschön Lukas! totally man. you're getting super good and i feel so lazy when i took a look at your new stuff XD. let's just keep going!!
