@ mark sampson: Just lots and lost of practice I look at a lot of photos and the sketches of Loomis, Bridgman, and Hogarth.

Looks good! One thing thats bugging me though, there seems to bit of a disconnect from her neck to shoulders. Maybe its the wide collar thats messing with my eyes..? I think my eyes are trying to see where her trapezius is to make the connection to the shoulder drop off. I dunno. =/

Maybe it's just me, but her chin looks sort of big/ manly for a girl. It's like her jaw is protuding a bit outwards giving her a bit of a manface.

Other than that, not much to add to what's been said. It's good to see that even tho you're pretty much at pro level you never forget to get back to basics. You're truly an inspiration, and I can't wait to see what you'll come up with next.

    Hey Matt!

Just dropping by to thank you for CtrlPaint. It's awesome, and the Grayscale to Color video helped me a ton. A few questions, though:

    1. when doing your studies, do you use your normal workflow (grayscale underpainting + multiply glazing) ?

    2. what you think about the screen and overlay modes?

    3. what kind of study do you suggest to improve the grayscale value underpaintings?

    Cya!

Hey Matt, love your work, this last piece seems pretty off though. The eyes aren't aligned right with the rest of the face, like the nose and lip are angled downward, but the eyes are aligned in an upward angle. The right side of her lip seems to end too quickly and seems like it should extend out further. And her chin seems very firm and masculine, aswell as her cheeks. If you already noticed this then sorry, just thought I'd give some feedback

I think the issues with her having a masculine chin are acceptable. Some women have masculine features. The mouth and eyes convey femininity quite well. The nose looks a bit at a different angle to the rest of her face however.

The colours are gorgeous, love them.

    Hey man!

I think her right eye seems a little off - I think it's too small compared to the left one - and the position of the pupils are also a little off, making her a bit strabic. On the manliness side: I think you can fix her by softening her left cheek a bit. And I think her neck is a bit too long (what you think?).

The colors you are using are AWESOME. Please do continue, she is gorgeous.

    Cheers!
