Your last study portrait is well done, the colors are stunning. And for your Sebastien Grainger portrait, i think your version is better than the original, so it's a good sign heheh!
    (great SB btw)

Love your sketchbook, It's a great source of inspiration. But if I need to be critical, on the last one you need to soften the edges, and imply bounce light more in the pears - they seem a bit flat right now. I'm sure it is due to you having a different focus of the exercise, but still, doesn't hurt to point out.

@ moonrage: good call. I Agree completely -- sharp everywhere is worse than sharp nowhere

Here's a study from the most epic thing you'll see all week

Also, on an unrelated note, I've released a new set of videos at ctrlpaint.com called Basic Photoshop Rendering. Check it out!

    Thanks, guys!

Recently I've been spending more of my personal-art time on my website, ctrlPaint. As a result, I'll start showing you some of that work here in my sketchbook. This upcoming week is all about Specularity (glossy highlights), and here are some screenshots. The general schedule is: two fee videos each week, Tuesday and Thursday. This week starts with brush technique for painting highlights, and then ends with this purple abstract thingy.

    last update looks good.

& like how solid the work you do seems - esp pieces like #623, #572/#578 (thanks for the process on that one), #583/#588/#592/#600, #411 and #489. & others.

But given my weakness for birds - and how damn solid your painting is in #497 I just get really happy looking at it - esp. given the process images to it.

thanks for posting - and the blog seems cool too ~

Hey man. Work is looking great as per usual, I especially like that portrait of the rocker.

A request for the tutorial site, could you show your process of painting portraits? It seems everyone has a different approach, and I'm currently trying to find a way that works for me. So far, the Reilly method seems easiest. Thanks man, and keep it up.

@ droid: I don't really have a method.. I do it a bit different every time. Someday, I hope to have a method. As for the Reilley Method -- that's cool! I didn't know it had a name. Thanks for the cool video!

Here are some quick drawings -- inspired by the reilley method.
