George Pratt - Hill 789 Documentary

Hi, wanted to post a few images before the portfolio reviews this coming week.

The images I'm posting are from a job I'm working on right now for a documentary about a Romanian soldier in World War One.

I was contacted by the Honorary Consul to Romania in American, Dan Dimancescu to work on this film with him and his son for Romanian television. Basically I'm doing drawings and paintings for material they don't have existing photographic reference for.

These are mostly pen and ink, charcoal and pastel. A couple of them have spar varnish on them.

    Hope you like them!

    George

oh no!!!! its GEORGE PRATT IN THE MF-ING HOUSE!!!

hows it going man? so cool to see you posting on our humble little boards. i still think back to our judging of the illest of the ill at like 2 in the morning...the kegger we went to...the good times we shared...

these are all awesome . i love your direct approach. there's something everyone could learn from your fearlessness. but that last one in particular...man...you really understand the meaning of the deft mark.

im stoked that our crews are playing together now! hey, i think the future is so bright, i have to put my shades on or something like that.

    hugs!

    Thanks!

    Coro,
Man, it's great to be here! This is one happening place, and always has been. I'm honored to be here.

It was a blast when you came down to Ringling and blew everyone's minds with your presentation and demos. They're still talking about it, and anyone that missed it still gripes about it. But it was great to meet you then and to find out how easy going you are. Lots of fun!

I think the combo of ConceptArt and the Academy is killer and covers all the bases that could possibly need covering.

I'm a little nervous about the portfolio reviews, but it should be fun. I feel like my work is sort of old fashioned after looking at all the high-tech stuff on this site. There's so much really nice work here! Very cool to see!

Looking forward to hanging some more with you sometime in San Fran.

    George

Very nice work... the last one is especially well done!

And don't worry about all the other "high tech" stuff, the type of work you do is a breath of fresh air.

Oh, and I also have a blog that, unfortunately, doesn't get updated very often, but I think there's some good info on the site:

Here are some non-"Hill 789" images. These range from things I just did for myself, figure drawings, to material for my blues novel "See You In Hell, Blind Boy", to work for my collaboration with poet Gabor Barabas on "Find Me a Voice" - a book of Holocaust poems.

These first three are from "See You In Hell, Blind Boy". The first is in acrylic. The second is just pen with watercolor. The third is playing with Mark English's wet pastel technique and tar.

Here are a couple of life drawings in Nu-Pastel.

The next three are from "Find Me a Voice". The first is acrylic, oil and tar. The other two are oils. The second one is about 5 feet tall.

The next ones were just pieces done for myself, or as demos for classes. The first is in acrylic, oil and tar. The rest are just oil.

    Hope you like!

And as Anita Kunz said in her post, this site is so HUGE! I'm enjoying digging around in here and discovering so much great work! Looking forward to the portfolio review on Wednesday, November 4, with Wes Burt.

    George,

Great to see you here! Just did an interview with the guys at Sidebar Nation. They wanted to know all about my side of the Illustration Academy story! Good times- should be out soon. When they asked about my involvement, I blamed you for everything!

Hope you are well, and I hope to catch up with you soon. Beautiful work, as always.
