Hey bro! Thank you for the encouragement! Yip, the anatomy is sometimes a grind, I need to think of interesting ways to overcome the downtimes. =)
Aye, I'm going to render some more soon-ish.
Keep well bro and take care.

    Force drawing 7. =)

Basically lazied this whole piece, not so happy today, not sure what's wrong. =/

In any case, it's just the last few exercises of spacial concepts drawing from Mattesi's.

Overlapping circles create T-shapes and thus depth and space.

Then a few other things on foreshortening, size for example is vitally important.

Here's some quotes from Mattesi's which I will try to remember - page 88 -

"We are so conditioned to this rule (the importance of the size of objects and shapes) in our everyday lives that something as simple as the size of a circle fools us into seeing space."

    And...

"Imagine what would happen if while driving, all of the cars on the freeway around you were the same size, no matter how close or far from you they were."

"Size tells our brain about the drama of depth."

heyyy man got an awesome flow going you seem really pumped to draw! just keep it up! Try to work on your line quality, I noticed the strength Mattesi's drawings come from his confident seeping lines. Try to draw the curves without taking your pencil off the page and maybe do some blind contours to increase the line quality. Might be an idea to look more into anatomy and form once you've finished the force book!

    Hey bro!

Ah, you read my mind, yes, I've been wondering about the scratchiness for a while now.

Thank you for the tip, I'll try more confident swooshes as you mentioned, in addition to some blind contouring. It's been bugging me for a while, but anything to nail this I'll gladly oblige. =)
Will do, I'll be back onto the anatomy again soon, I find I get bored quickly with it, so I'm going to combine it with the other studies.

Thank you for the encouragement bro and keep well. =)

    Silhouette 1

    Notes:

The silhouette of the pose should look 'appealing'. In force terms this may be roughly understood as lines of force which are working together with a feeling of rhythm.

For this exercise, I used a thick pencil and drew bold and confident lines.

    Force drawing 5 in colour.

So many things wrong with this piece but it's just for practice. =)

Need to find out how light diffuses across subsurfaces for example, amongst other things..

Leveled the hell out of it to bring out the tones, so effectively I cheated. =)

Another hand study, the charcoal is almost effortless to draw with, feels like you're barely drawing at all.

    Hands 4..

Drew this with brown coloured pencil instead, and compared with the charcoal, it feels more difficult to draw with. Cool thing is, the colour is permanent, so you can't erase any mistakes.

    So-so feet...

Drawing them big to spot all the mistakes and times when I felt I was guessing the edge (this is a really bad habit for anyone.)

Making preparations to draw them from imagination, so these are the practice pieces for that.

    Body 12. =)

    Some torso and back muscles.

My first go at this, the curves were really confusing me at times. I missed one or two as well on a second look, oh well.

The key back muscles are supposed to look like a butterfly shape.

    hey man,
i definatly approve of the watercolours.

so how did you nearly kill yourself in the snow? maybe its irrelevent to art, but im pretty interested.

you seem really dedicated to the studies. are you enjoying them tho?
i rekon if you start to find it a chore to do them, yu should probly move on to something else. art should never be forced....

also, just to clarify, i didnt mea for the kraken to be pink. i just didnt use enough layers of red watercolour.

    where are you from anyway?

    Kurt.

    Heya Kurt

    Thank you for the compliments.

The snow is pretty bad here, there is this one particular part where it's better just to skate across than try to walk. Sometimes though, if you don't get enough across, you can get struck in the middle, then it's best just to crawl across. =)

Yip, I'm enjoying the studies, except that there are down times, which is usually when I try another medium as you mentioned. Line work can become a little tedious after a while.

Ah okay, I see, so do you have plans to make some more monsters?

I'm from Wales, but only just moved back last year.

    Keep well bro.

    Hello Taylor

Thank you bro, I enjoyed that discussion on line we had this week, was inspiring but at the same time deflating for me, the crux of which has been bugging me all week. I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or bad, but in any case it's got me pondering at least.

For the watercolour, certainly, I managed to get my hands on a calender with J Turner's works in it, so I'm looking at that at the moment. It's all quite advanced for the moment, however it would be nice to progress to it.

Thank you, that 2:2 grade for visual studies really made my day (however I've been depressed all week, haha!). Not the normal depression though, more of a pondering, explorative, finding out wtf-kind of brooding depression. =)

Speak again soon bro, keep well and hope you're recovering from the chills.

Just felt like redrawing her as I messed up the last watercolour, it's inspired by the work of Stephanie Pui-Mun Law.

Really need to work on my pencil pressure though, still not comfortable with how this came out.

Good stuff mate. I really like that you're working with silhouettes.

I have to agree with Taylor about working on form. There are some great tutorials on perspective and drawing into the page. Definitely worth a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsQ1WVyPHvU

I know I say this allot but the Natural Way to Draw really does help with this to.
