looking good man maybe try to blend on the avatar a little more? I think the contrast is too much at the moment?
Also try and avoid using the soft edged brush, the eye looks good but I think it would benifit from using a hard edged brush and using opacity settings to blend

    Hello Taylor!

Thank you for the great advice bro. I'll start to work in some light and shadow, as well as some detail in today. I too agree that there's a lot of contrast, so hopefully this will be mended in the next session. *fingers crossed*

Sure thing, I'll do another eye or maybe ear study and use a harder brush, and blend with the opacity instead.

Just going to pick up my maquette from school and then the painting shall commence!

    Keep well bro.

The second eye looks better than the first, and the avatar is comin along nicely. The eyes seem to be the wrong shape though, so do some tutorials on how to draw the eye firstly, and then that will help you paint it better also I think. With some more refinement they could be really nice. Keep it up!

    Heya Jeremy

Thx's for the advice, I tried to work on the shape with this next one. Still getting used to the hard edge brushing.

    Keep well.

here's a quick paintover to show you a better idea of the eye's shape over yours. I hope that helps : ]
You can see how the top of the eye isn't as much of a flat curve, but rather goes up at an angle and then curves down towards the other side, and don't forget the eyelid line above the eye.

Thank you for the superb advice bro, especially the paintover, I'll look at your paint over and see where I'm going wrong. Pretty high right now but yeah, it makes sense. Thx's, I'll get going on another study soon mkay.

I did some more work on the avatar thing, knocked back the values a bit, still thinking about it though.

Some really nice stuff here. I would suggest maybe doing some skull studies, to get down the shape of the head.

Hey man, definate improvement on the eye and the alien. You've adapted to the hard edged brushes really well. I totally agree with Jeremy and his advice is good. Try and do studies from life or photos but make sure to really study what you see not what you think you see this may make no sense whatsoever but I'll explain when I see you next if it doesnt! keep up the good stuff man

Yikes, got so busy these past two weeks, haven't done much drawing other than for end of term project (which was a major pain in the bum!).

    Did this piece tonight. Nighters.

    Quickly did these tonight.

Also did some other stuff, but it's likely too crap to post (force drawings tend to look ugly by nature.)

Hey I was just wandering through sketchbooks and I noticed you were studying on Hogarth anatomy as well.

You're doing well, you've just got to work on really fixing proportions and less skew. Hope you don't mind my comments. (We all struggle with these at some point. And if no one ever tells you to fix it, you just kind of accept it and try to work on other things. But from personal experience, it doesn't help if you don't fix this first.)

I'd suggest working on looking up tutorials on proportions (I use a lot of deviant art tutorials. ) After that, you'd probably find hogarth a bit easier. also, if you work on skeletal structure and muscles, your anatomy will get better.

Just suggestions. Hope to continue to see your work improve.

    Hello Ephelea!

Thank you for the advice and proportion has certainly bothered me for a while. The best thing to do is likely what you suggest and confront the problem directly.

The skew is me guessing the edge and getting confused sometimes. I need to stop doing that and consider the shape more carefully.

Kkay, so starting with some proportion, I decided to do this face one first.

    Keep well.

While she mostly does painting type tutorials, if you look at what she says about shape you can get something (for some reason, she's the reason I understood noses. ) And while all these are just suggestions, and not the only way to do things - it's a start. I try new things all the time, to see what helps me out. I also learn by doing and watching, so unlike some people I can't just read - so videos are amazing.

There's a wealth of information, if we only search for it. And about your comment on men - I agree, I do need to do more studies of them. I do women mostly because I am, and am more comfortable/familiar with them. lol. Thanks for the comments! I hope we can both progress and help each other to learn (together in a way. )

You're doing well with your studies, just keep at it.
For anatomy, I would recommend studying from an anatomy book and learning where all the bones and muscles go and how they connect. Spend a week on each body part (arms, legs, torso, entire body, etc.) Once you have that down, then you can simplify the anatomy down into muscle groupings and basic shapes but you will understand what's really going on.

    Hello Jeremy

Thank you for the good advice - I'll take you up on this although I likely won't have that much time these holidays to spend a week on each part of the body, but I'll do my best to spend at least some time on each one, rest assured.
For the moment, here's the pelvic gurdle.

    Keep well.
