Hm, I remember visiting a site long ago which had tons of reading of these books. I'll try and find it again for ya.

In the meanwhile, the best I can find is lot of references to old books that's great to read at ARMA (the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts).

    http://www.thearma.org/reading.htm

I advise you all who want to get the best out of this to look through ARMA's site, it contains HUGE amounts of usefull material.

    Beautiful videos!

May I also add that not only can an artist learn from the videos or books visually, but the experience of learning in a fencing class is paramount? You learn from the physical effects of sword combat from using epee, foil or saber and then one can transition that experience to SCA re-enactment.

I say this because I've been studying it for several months now with the epee and it's a challenging and addictive art. It gives me a much better idea of what it's like to be dueling and the placement of foot and bladework involved without having to 'fake' it.

Hi, There are a lot of online volumes available through various European libraries. You just need to know how to find them...

To get things started, here are online scans of Paulus Hector Mair's two amazing tomes of Renaissance Martial Arts.

I would also suggest clicking through the various links found here on SFI.

Hehe, I'm just glad to help.

Update a bit. Found some videos showing how swords, arrows and the like really affect armour, helmets, mail, shields and so.

I can probably get you guys some photos of southern and northern Chinese staff, broadsword (Dao), Straight Sword (Jian), and a sort of pole arm called a Guandao. Maybe video. Depends on how my camera holds up to motion, but my Sifu would probably oblige...

    Update!

Ok this is actually how they fought way back, kick in the groin, very effective as you can see - and almost feel .

The longsword slowly got replaced by the rapier by the time when guns started popping up, and by the late 1600-century they were very rare.

    Will be posting more soon.
