Some Friesian studies, done for a commission I'll be working on soon.
May appear very dark on your monitor, I painted them on a laptop with a very bright screen.

Amazing work Lhune, I sincerely love what i see here. You have some GREAT beast designs and I must say you keep all the poses interesting, and this is difficcult thing imo. Lately your rendering technique is improving a lot too. Sometimes I believe the shapes are a bit too much soft, maybe you could try more acute ones, spines, thorns and also geometrical/hard edged ones
keep working good!
Ricardo Robles: Why thank you! You're absolutely right, I have a tendency to make everything I do soft and rounded. I'll work on that, thanks again!

Small update, I've just come back from a road trip to France. I've got some commissions to catch up with and I'm hoping to be rather productive in the coming days.

Another commission done. Painstaking, this one. Hoping to get the next ones done a bit faster, I need to learn how to distribute detail properly.
I know the composition is a bit messy. I'll work on that as well.

Lovely progression, and, lovely creatures!![]()

Firstly thanks for all the help and advice you have given over the many many months even years that I have been posting on here, you are always kind and patient and usually dead on with your comments.
As for your sketchbook its been a blast going through it, very enjoyable, my favourite has to be the blue dragon on the hillside well done my mate.
Quiglayer is right it s the time you take to understand these animals and creatures that you create that breathes the life into them, you are head and shoulders above everyone else as far as I'm concerned, its great keep it comming please.
thanks again for posting

Some more commission work. Two sketches and one finished, not bad for one day and the day isn't even over yet!

Another commission done. Not entirely pleased with this one, though it was supposed to look "unattractive" (hence the crooked horn and damaged wings).
Looking forward to working on the anthropomorphic Kelpie (the horseman sketch above), that'll be a blast!
Sketchbook DeviantArt
Hi there buddy how are you?
I loved the horse heads you did at the top there, I have gotten a little jaded with all the macarbe and monster stuff around the forum, and was ready for something nice for a change.
having said that the dragons are rather good too, and the enviro studies on page 4 all in all I think this skech book is a mental holiday for me thanks for posting ha ha ha
all the best to you mate as usual.

Thank you N@robase.

A quicky inbetween commissions (not the full color one I referred to), a gift I still owed someone.

I love how solid your work is, it's so refined and smooth. Really really refreshing - it's not a bad thing at all. It's the kind of look that captured me as a child when looking around some of my favourite illustrated books. Keep it up!![]()
Hi: GUY
Are you interest to put your creature with my female figure together? I think it is interesting! Draw some ?

A quick drawing of my personal character, a speedpainting of a friend's creature design (eel face) and finally one of my larger commissions in a long while.

Really nice stuff! Your anatomy is really active and dynamic in most cases, reminds me a little of Claire Wendling. If I had any recommendations, it would be a little more life painting and let it infect your illustrations a little- sometimes you have very nice light, but other times it feels as if you are coming to conclusions without much knowledge of how light plays on the materials- but overall, very nice stuff! Thank you for stopping by my sketchbook as well![]()
Good luck!
wow, great updates! havent been here in a while, i missed alot! but evrything is looking really nice! since you mentioned how you get caught up in details, i thought id just say that zooming out alot can help with that alot. i do it constantly when im working, just to make sure certain elements aren't overpowering others, and that the image as a whole has a definitive focal element, clearly defined by its level of detail or sharpness of contrast. just something ive picked up, but you probably know this already, just put it to use! haha. great work though man!

Love your creature concept /bow
Justin: Thanks so much for dropping by! I had never heard of Wendling before, her works are quite lovely. You're absolutely right about that lighting, I need to work on that pretty badly. I'll be doing real life studies whenever I can in the coming weeks.
NickyBeats: Actually I work very zoomed out most of the time, heh! The problem is when I do start zooming in and refining certain areas, I don't really know when to stop, like when it's "enough". Even if the zoomed out picture does look okay, I never know which rough edges to leave alone and which ones to polish. Thanks for stopping by!
berniebakari: Thank you!

A bit of style exploration and concept work for a school project.
Last is a WIP. I feel like I could do much better but for now these'll have to do (deadlines). I'll probably have time to improve the last two over the course of the coming week.

Our team decided on a different style/mood for the game concept, so I decided to start over from scratch. Did a few (admittedly rather messy) thumbnails and eventually came up with the final design.
We decided on the cell shading and outline for interactive objects.

Sketch commission I turned into a flat color, since the commissioner is a friend of mine and I had quite a lot of fun with this one. I wish I got commissioned for humans more often.

Composition sketches for a commission. Main source of inspiration was Bierstadt. I'm probably going for either the first or the fourth (bottom left), or some kind of a mixture between those. I'll have another look tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Love the fourth. Reminds me of some of the big Tolkien illustrators, with a bit of Dorι thrown in.
