    Mock: Illustrations WIPs update, 06/17

New sketchbook, in hopes that my time at the CA atelier will have me sucking less artistic cock over the next two years.

Some of the portfolio that I got in on in the first post. One week in and I already realize how bad all of this shit is. New stuff as it gets done.

Studies look great, especially the hands!

Hey, I was interested in applying for the Atelier eventually, and I was wondering if there was any way I could see the exact portfolio you applied with to get in? Or maybe you know where to find someone else's?

There are methods that you can use to learn information like that very thoroughly and fast, although they are counterintuitive and take a long time to get going. A good book which discusses these would be "tricks of the mind", by a man named Derren Brown, most famous for being a TV mentalist but also a sceptic (so not a worthless shitbag like Sylvia Browne etc).

Emailing/PMing is fine. And it's $600 a month. Which is insaaaaanely cheap for the education and firm kick in the ass you get.

Really great progress! Saw your stuff in your other SB, and you really work hard for it, big congrats! If it is not a problem, would also like to see the portfolio you submitted. Looking forward for more updates.

    Internet compression sucks dick.

Just a bit of quick character sketch commission work. There's still some serious flaws to work out (like his fucking feet), but the time-to-money ratio on this is already super high for what it was supposed to be. More practice at painting directly into photoshop, this time after a couple weeks of cast drawing. If you ever get the chance to do cast drawing (with someone instructing you to do it properly) do it. It will help you understand form sooooo much more in a short time.

Will edit in some individual responses when I get home tonight. But as always, thank you for the comments and support. =D

Surr: I actually picked up that book. It took a while to force myself to read it, but it had some useful methods.

    Jaytea: Thanks! =)

D.aligh: I wish I could show more of it. It'll probably be several weeks before I get the chance.

Sung-jae: I am! It's an amazing learning experience.

GriNGo: Thanks, man. I'm looking forward to hopefully being able to produce better shit to post. =P

    Drum: Thanks!

Maestro: Thanks man. And it's no problem. The art from the portfolio is at: http://carmencianelli.com/caportfolio2/artwork.htm

Francisco: Thanks dude. I miss you guys on vent. =(

Struve: Thanks! I checked out your SB, nice work!

Cdejong: I have no idea when they're going to do another one of those or if I'll even be in it, haha.

Pandah: Thanks man. Slooooowly but surely.

I promise I'm not dead, just busy. There's a decent amount of shit that I can't post for another few weeks, but here's some crap I've been doing for DA commissions (could you tell by the shiny colors and subject matter?) as well as some style exploration and general practice. Some reffed, some not. Back to woooooork I go.
