great range of tones. some of the more angular edges don't seems as sharp up close though. Still, fantastic job
haha WICKED START TO A SKETCH BOOK BROTHER NOW SHOW US SOME MMMMMMMRRRRRAAAAAOOOOOOORRRRRRRRR PLEASE XD
Great start!
Make a soft edged selection of the face of the skull and hit it with some extreme (400% or so) unsharp mask and TA-DA, it's finished! Looking forward to seeing more![]()
very nice picture,looks very prof.
it`s maybe not the first time you draw^^
SMILEFACE - haha! thank you! Love your energy and really enjoying the WASTED thread.
Malepart - thanks!
henri - good call! I have a tendency to forget about the rest of the program and just keep drawrin' but I will give that a shot.
htkpeh - thanks man! that's a huge compliment... I'm blushing. I'm just an obsessed hobbyist with hopes of making it my livelihood... still a long ways off, I think.
Welp, I haven't had a ton of time lately unfortunately, so this is a WIP based on a photo by a fellow named Lee Jeffries. I couldn't resist the urge to try to re-render this as the photograph is stunning. I'm not sure I can do it justice, but it's been fun to try.![]()
Loving the ConceptArt.org community. Thanks everyone for your feedback!
hey nice studies heartcore. hope to see more from you! for some suggestions I would say work more on ur blending. the skull seems kinda blurry. And you seem to have a grasp on values. Keep practicing and keep it up!
Hey! Pretty neat stuff you got there. Very good use of colours for the skull. I would suggest work on making the forms sharp and keep in mind to make the left side of a face proportionate to the right side as seen on your old man painting. Keep it up![]()
yogeshj25 - Thanks! Yes, I do need to stop being such a wuss and start using harder brushes. It's mostly a confidence thing.
Nishan K - he's supposed to be squinting, but I think I'm failing at getting that across and it makes the proportions look wacky... ah well. I may drop this one and move on. Thanks for the compliments and critique!
So the old man painting is probably doneski, but here is one last update before I put his old ass in the ground, so to speak.
I got frustrated and decided I'd paint.. a zombie. I am kind of enjoying the contrasty stuff... probably gonna roll with it for a little while.
a quick sketch before bed. Critique always welcome.![]()

Sup man. Nice intro!
You should start to think more about your brushstrokes because I think you're doing the soft brush thing because you aren't completely sure where it's going so you do everything extremely slow and soft to find out where to go next.
Everyone has different approaches but my suggestion would be to map things out instead of doing this. Then you can put down more confident strokes and then smooth out the strokes you want to be really soft. This way things won't look blurry either.
You need to take into consideration where the planes are of each object and follow them by your brushstroke and define the form that way.
Your palette is really good on the skull though.
keep it up
Loathsome - you're exactly right - it's a confidence issue. I'm just not visualizing it like I should be. Most of that is lack of structured practice, I think, but I'm working on that.At any rate, thanks for the compliments and I have taken your advice to heart.
I'm sad. My bird died.![]()
