You have some really useful job done! That's really great that you're doing those without colorpicker, it'll pump up your coloring skills like mad. Don't forget about old masters' copies

    Wow, great stuff here GEB!

I hope you will finish that environment sketch you are working on, the hint of warm sunlight in the upper right is just beautiful. If you include a guy in the foreground, maybe you can make him quite small and really create the sense that the structure and mountains are epic in scale.

I noticed that you seem to use fairly basic brushes for most of your work, even for creating texture like the moonlight reflecting from your dragon's scales. In my experience it's very difficult to do this and get the random brush marks required for really realistic looking texture, unless you zoom right in and spend ages working away using a tiny brush. You might like to try combining a few custom texture brushes to get some really random marks - erasing away where the texture is too heavy and picking out areas to enhance with a small basic brush. Even simply using a basic brush that is just a little irregular and changing up the size a bit more often will really help you to achieve more interesting marks. Let me know if you need some custom brushes, I might have some you would like.

I need to get stuck into some studies and improve my colour relations too, I feel way too comfortable working in b&w and it's not good. Let's both make this new year a productive one!

Like your new update, it's so sketchy sketchy but your mind can follow the scribbly lines and get the picture finished hope you'll post next update on this pic.

That technique reminds me Justin Sweet's video on painting centaur which I saw a while ago, I like how ppl can get a concept from scribbling. I definitely need to check this out but I'm afraid at the moment

Let's both properly nail it this year!

midknight523: Thanks dude! I push the giant back a little to show a little more of him. Plan to have a pained expression on his big stupid face

logistic puppet: Cheers! Just checked out your SB and you're coming on great guns!

logistic puppet: Always good to hear from you. You have a great style but let go sometimes and let the scribble take control!

Hi there, GEB!You're doing awesome work with that creature but I have some remarks for it. First of all, its emotion isn't reading very well. I couldn't decide whether it's anger or fear, because of widely open eyes this guy looks a bit scared. If you're trying to depict anger, I'd recommend you to shut his eyes a bit. Try snarling yourself, compressed cheek muscles raise lower eyelids and your eyes won't be so open. To open them like the guy from your picture you'll need to use eyebrow and forehead muscles and the upper eyelid will raise. Lower eyelid will remain raised because of cheek muscles.

I did a little overpaint as a suggestion for you. Creature's skull form isn't reading very well, I'd suggest you to enhance its cheekbones. There's also something strange happening with its lower jaw but I can't help because I'm not that good at animal paintings. It looks for me like the you should do something with soft tissue on guy's chin, where it goes too far from gums and bones. Try looking at some references like this one --> http://images.nationalgeographic.com...58_600x450.jpg I thought that the bigcat-skull-form is the closest to this guy's one.

Also I moved his eye a bit because his closest eye is placed further from the nose than his distant one. As I understand, you're trying to make this guy's face quite wide at cheekbones but his distant part of the muzzle is not wide enough to match the closest one. And the distant ear is too high.

Sorry for so many words and my crappy English, for a guy from London my grammar and vocabulary might be a real eterning facepalm And of course my overpaint is real crap and hope you'll understand what I wanted to say it all could be placed in 3 words - watch the form but... whatever that's me, I cant talk less. Cheers! ^__^
