HELLO EVERYONE! It feels like it's been a LLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNGG time. San Fransisco was a complete blast, I'll be posting a long overdue update to the trip on my blog very soon. With the internet going out for a while and school nearing it's end, I haven't had much time to sit down and edit and upload my work online. But here's what I've been up to, a lot of portrait studies (as always) this time the after school ones we've been focusing on warm lights instead of last years dim, cool ones. So there's a lot more green and orange going on which I'm really diggin. A couple little quick studies here and there, been getting back into drawing more and more with charcoal, something I only do once in a while, I truly love it's simplicity as well as it's ability to take it as far as you want to. I've been working on a few larger paintings all along, will post those once I can get a good photo of them. For now, I hope you enjoy!

third painting on post 512 is fantastic dude.
Hey Adam your posts are always worth waiting for. It's great that you have the opportunity to paint so many interesting portraits. I also really like the copper pot study, as a beginner at painting it is really interesting for me to see. Also. Love all the charcoal and sketches. Especially the fish eye one, I don't know how you draw them so cleanly with such precise marks. How long do you spend on sketches like these?![]()
Georgeos painting and details! Verry cool works, thank you for sharing your stuff!
awesome progress, love how your sketching skills progressed. really kickass work
adam: your productivity is a great strength. a few words of warning. dont fall in love with the texture of the paint and sacrifice the drawing for effect. i think its better to have integrity in the structure of the drawing and leave it unfinished than a pretty mess where you got lazy . the lady in profile with the red headdress is microcephalic. the right eye of the (presumably) asian lady in a yellow shirt has migrated down her face and looks (im not exaggerating) like quasimodo .
just simplify your painting approach. really. you paint with ten values and colours where four would do.

there is a reason painters keep their palette limited. (especially when sketching) it simplifies the problems you are dealing with. think of the broader planes and try not to overmodel faces by using unnecessary colour values.
even fechin, who had an almost abstract expressionist thing going on, kept a reasonably limited palette on the face, and simplified the planes of the face, made sure the transitions were smooth.
